Note for July 21, 01: - Me and Colin decided to do the Tyrwhitt/Pocaterra traverse. We left the parking lot at 10:00 A.M.. We reached the summit of Mt. Tyrwhitt at 12:15 A.M.. The weather looked O.K. and we felt strong so we decided to traverse over to Pocaterra. When we came back to Tyrwhitt from Mt. Pocaterra we got blasted with a lightening storm and got very close to getting struck by lightening.
Dates Summited - July 21, 01
Elevation -2874m(9,425Ft.)
Elevation Gain - 650m
Location - Highwood Area
July 21, 01- After following the trail from the parking lot for around 30 -45 min you rise into an alpine meadow. We found a herd of Bighorn Sheep and got a nice picture. |
July 21, 01- After you get to the Grizzly Col, you start to grovel up the terribly loose slope up Mt. Tyrwhitt. The rock is dangerously loose and should be done with a helmet. Basically the actual scrambling on Mt. Tyrwhitt sucks. I do not know why this scramble is so popular. |
July 21, 01- The only fun part on Mt. Tyrwhitt is the window that has been eroded and left in the shape of a wishbone. Here is a picture of me scrambling around on it. When we descended Mt. Tyrwhitt from Mt. Pocaterra we got to this window from the summit in no more than ten or fifteen seconds because we were trying to get away from the lightening as quick as possible. |
July 21, 01- Here me and Colin are on the summit. I overheard a guy on the summit talk about afternoon thunderstorms and I ignored what he said thinking that we would be in the valley by the time the storms came in. After taking this picture we decided to traverse over to Mt. Pocaterra. Bad decision. |
