Music and Me

Music plays a large chunk in my life.. well, more like, I've played music for a large chunk of my life... either ways, I have to say that learning the piano for 8++ years has finally begun to pay off. sure, I might not have grasped and perfected all the playing techniques, but hey! Who cares?? If I play the stuff fast enough, people ogle at my convincingly incredible skills with they'e mouths wide open... and that’s all that matters!! Unfortunately, this only works for amateurs and grade one kiddies.. it's quite a relief to know that not everyone knows how to play the piano and you don't get blokes coming up to you saying :"erm, sorry to intrude, but wouldn't that be a C# chord instead of that augmented D you just played? I really think it ought to be a plagal cadence as bach intended...". If a scenario similar to the above does eventually happen, that bloke will find himself with A# object shoved up his glutemus maximus. Anyways, enough with the threats to outstandingly pathetic individuals,.. I shall begin a brief summary of the history of my musical talent :P Once upon atime, my brother learned the piano at a small house not far from where we lived,.. unaware of the dangers and commitment, and most of all, the ghastly beast who lay within the walls of that dreadful dreadful place, little Winston decided to follow o' big brother's footsteps to learn the piano. Once within the grasps of the great, 'orrible monster, otherwiseknown as.... MDM SUE, little Winston wus forever condemned to learn the piano, and face the malevolent..... MDM SUE.. Every.. Single.. Saturday (except for Christmas. She's Christian).. what cud he do? He cud not escape.. he cud not slay the evil monster.. there fore, after years and years of endless torture, pain, and worst of all,.. THEORY, Winston (who's skills were developing gradually) decided enough was enough! At grade 6, Winston lead a rebellion of children and friends who had been trapped within the benevolent threshold and marched over to Siwen studios for piano lessons,...where the air con is on 24/7. still, I would be ungrateful to say I didn't owe some of my piano skills to MDM SUE! I knew I was going to miss some famous words that blasted out from her every now and again during my piano lessons… affectionate words like "HAVE YOU DONE YOUR THEORY HOMEWORK I SET YOU TWO WEEKS AGO??" and "YOU HAVEN'T BEEN PRACTISING!!!" and of course, "CUUUUURVE YOUUUUR FIIINGERS!!!!" such nostalgic events shall never be forgotten. After moving on to siwens studio, I started joining the orchestra.... Well,.. I'd like to think it was an orchestra, it was actually a small ensemble of inexperienced players and an enthusiastic conductor. I took up the violin, and it was fun making screeching noises.. this was the first part I had joined a group of musicians... apart from the time in primary school where I played a little drum :).it proved to be quite interesting and fun, especially before and after practise sessions when my friends, the Yeo brothers and I messed around with the pianos, doing stuff like playing the minute waltz in a minute, and a prelude in 40 seconds.. Aaaah,.. those were the days. Shortly after switching schools from the musically barren land of SMKL to St columbas, I joined the band, taking up the trombone. Apart from the fact that your lips became sort of numb and bloated after the amount of intense vibrations applied whilst blowing the instrument, it was actually alright.. :P at this stage, I had begun to have interest in a lot of different instruments. Most of them I fiddled around for a month or two or at least until I got bored of it and decided to move on to the next one.. letsee,.. so far I've tried the drum, violin, trombone, harmonica (k, I was bored see? And my dad used to be real good at it :)), yang ching (some chinese instrument with lots of strings on it), drum set, ... and now I've grown kindoff attached to my electric guitar :). Might try the bagpipe next..... After coming to England, I haven't actually expanded my repetoir and musical skills much,.. with the exceptions of small piano performances here and there and a synthesiser part in a drama . im planning to perform a jazz duet soon for House Music so that shud be interesting :)
