At dawn of Bintulu stepping into a metropolitan
industrial town, the Bintulu people and the homeless are at
the end of their quest for what they called "My own land and
my home". Among those whose journey had ended is Puan Normah
binti Narawi, originally from Kampung Datuk who is now staying
at the ABF Housing at Kidurong. Her husband is attached to the
ABF Security Section.
She told that her family members are homeless and landless
as their only home in Kampung Datuk was destroyed in a fire a
few years back. Hence, she stressed a dire need for her own
family to have a place that can be called home of their own.
"Thus it is like a prayer being answers when our
application for a lot in Kampung Assyakirin was accepted," she
said.
"My family is thankful and grateful for this good fortune
for it was ages that we dreamed of owning our own home," she
said.
Hence coining Puan Normah word of "thankful and grateful"
is indeed appropriate because the name Assyakirin given to the
new resettlement more or less meant "Thankful and Grateful" in
Arabic.
The name ASSYARIKIN was chosen as it simply meant being
thankful and in this case thankful for the rapid development
that has been brought to Bintulu which had benefited the
people in many ways. The name has been approved personally by
the Chef Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Haji Abdul Taib
Mahmud who is also BDA Chairman.
Kampung Assyarikin is situated next to the Bintulu
Divisional Mosque - Masjid Assyarikin (which the kampung is
named after) opposite to SMK Bintulu, along Jalan Sultan
Iskandar. It is among the first well-planned village found in
the state.
Kampung Assyarikin has a total of 465 lots of which 36 lots
are for the Co-operative Housing scheme. The objective of the
Kampung Assyarikin is to create a Muslim resettlement in the
vicinity of Masjid Assyarikin. Kampung Assyarikin has
facilities like football field, shopping lots, kindergarten,
primary school and community hall.
The eligibility for the applicants is:
-
they must be landless and homeless

the dire needs to move out from their present home for

-
their income and ability to pay over a period or ten
years
