Taman Tumbina is another attractive place which
is the home of nature. This is a scenic place especially
for the nature lover. Taman Tumbina name comes from the
word Fauna and Flora in Malay Language (Tumbuhan and
Binatang). Animals like lions, tigers, deers, monkey
grace this place of interest. In addition, there are
also cold-blooded reptiles such as crocodiles, snakes
and turtles.
Bird all of shapes
and sizes can be found in this tropical Eden, living
ever so comfortably in the wide cages with ample space.
Visitors are occasionally treated to minor
"performances" by 2 naughty orang utans. The orang utan
just happens to be the official mascot of the 16th
Commonwealth Games held in Kuala Lumpur, fondly named
WIRA. There's no doubt that the Bintulu Wildlife Park
(THL) is one of the major attractions in town. This
remark is based on the number of visitors visiting the
park since its opening on August 2, 1991. The concept of
the park, which has a bougainvillaea garden has made it
attractive to visitors.
The THL opens everyday (including Sundays and
holidays) from 8.00 a.m. in the morning to 7.00 p.m. in
the evening. The last visitor is allowed to come in at
6.30 p.m. The peak period with the highest number of
visitors is during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays),
school holidays and public holidays. Weather plays a
part in the number of visitors who are visiting the
park. Normally few people would frequent the park if the
weather is drizzling or raining.
THL started to charge fees with effect from January 2
1992. The entrance on the age of the visitors is either
RM1.00 or RM0.50 (now RM2.00 or RM1.00) depending on the
age of the visitor. Children below the age of 6 years
are free of charge.
