::Race Journal - Florida State Openers::
Well... The BMXStatz.com Race Journal is here to stay. This update comes to you LIVE from very nippy St. Cloud, Florida - home of the 2003 Florida State Openers. For those of you who aren't aware, Florida is well known for close, fast, hot racing. This was once again proven by the 208 motos that dropped, along with 1/4 and semi finals. Pro Open ran semis, and Supergirls (which was unusually shorthanded for a Florida race) had split motos.

01.28.03: Sorry for the wait everyone, but getting 35mm pictures developed AND scanned is pretty rough. For now, get a taste of the racing action here on the journal.

Friday Night: We left Miami (roughly 66 degrees) at 10am. St. CLoud, on the other hand, was a VERY nippy 30 degrees with a 20 degree wind chill. (Ed. Note: It was 42 when I left Columbus last year!) Turnout was looking like it would be pretty big...

Saturday: ...Which it definitely turned out to be. Two-hundred eight motos begin to drop at 11am (still freezing!). I perfected my motos... Which... I might add, was the squirliest moto of the weekend. Long story... First off all, I go check the moto board and read Moto 50 - 15 Girls' 20" about 20 times and I am POSITIVE that I am not on it. About 20 minutes (and motos) later, I am in moto 50-A with Ashley Boyd and Ashley Hantzis. Our gate drops and I'm in 1st the whole way. Hantzis ends up crashing in the rytyhym section by herself. On the last straight, I am pretty tired and stopp pedalling, but to secure the 1st place, I move over on Boyd and end up taking us both out about 2 inches from the finish line. After that, I ran across the finish to take 1st and then also took 1st in the 2nd moto. It was pretty sad though, EVERYONE in the moto crashed. But hey- it makes for a pretty good journal entry, right? Our main went down like this: 1- Kelly Hutto, 2- Jessi Ehlers, 3- Shelby Russ, 4- Vikki Burton, 5- Ashley Boyd

Instead of staying at a hotel, we stayed with my Aunt Amy, which, as usual, makes for some pretty good entertainment. On the way to Wal-Mart to pick-up our pictures, Amy told us to drop of a movie and pick up dog food. Well once we get there, movie-less ofcourse, we forget the dog food as well.

Sunday: Ok... So you think I would be hyped up about perfecting on Saturday, but no- I ride like crap on Sunday and take 3-3-3 4th (1- Kelly Hutto, 2- Jessi Ehlers, 3- Megan Thompson, 4- Shelby Russ, 5- Vikki Burton, 6- Ashley Boyd).

Props to a friend of mine... After a weekened of getting pushed around, unclipped, and forever 2nd, Kalin Hall Jr. makes the pass of the weekend in the next to last turn to get by the Hyper/Hotwheels ride during the 12 Cruiser main.

Thank-you's: Factory Supercross, Factory MCS/Bully for sponsoring the site, Amy and Bobby Flowers for housing us for the weekend, My parents for taking me to the race, Rich Montalvo for letting me once again use his camera, Jessi Helmer for film, and the NBL for EVENTUALLY getting me registered (Thanks Erma - : ) I know you guys are probably sick of me in the trailor!!).
