I'm done with the dash, until it's time to paint the car. Then every panel that's in primer will get shot with the body color, or for some of the interior pieces, a nice contrasting color is possible.
Another shot of the dash, showing the speedo cluster.
The area shown here is all rebuilt where the CD player is. The new filler was carefully marked with the pullout sleeve as a guide, and I used a cutoff wheel to trim out the sheetmetal to install the sleeve. This will be the only thing installed into the dash panel, besides the speedo head on top. The rest of the controls will go into a scratchbuilt floor console.
Here is the glovebox door and passenger side of the dash. The weld seam just under the insert has disappeared and it looks like the dash never had anything done to it. If you've ever seen the size of the stock aluminum insert that goes into the drop section, you know it's been a lot of work up to this point to smooth it all back out. Almost looks like a fibreglass dash, it came out so smooth. I will make up a new glovebox insert from fibreglass to replace the rotted-out original cardboard piece. It's just a simple 5-sided box shape...
This is a closeup shot of the speedo cluster. The turn and hi-beam bezels and lenses are not yet installed.
Now go and check out Page 8, where I suicide the doors!
