This is a glossary of terms and slang words associated with marijuana and its uses. I've also included examples of how each word might be used in a sentence. Street terms vary from place to place so some of these definitions might be different from what you've heard.
4:20 - 1. A popular time to smoke marijuana. 2. A popular date to smoke marijuana, April 20th.
Angeldust - PCP, often added to marijuana.
Babysit - Holding the marijuana that is being passed around too long.
Baked - See stoned.
BC Bud - Marijuana from British Colombia.
Beans - Marijuana seeds.
Blazed - See stoned.
Blitzed - See stoned.
Blizzy - See blunt.
Blown - See stoned.
Blowtube - A device that smoke is blown into to prevent odor.
Blunt - A cigar that has been emptied and filled with marijuana.
Bodega - A small store that sells marijuana.
Bogart - 1. For one to smoke more marjiuana than the others in the group are comfortable with. 2. One who smokes more marijuana than the others in the group are comfortable with.
Bone - See joint.
Bong - A pipe that allows the smoke to pass through water before inhaled.
Bow - See elbow.
Bowl - The part of a pipe or bong that holds the marijuana.
Brick - Marijuana that has been compressed and is often found in angular blocks.
Brown Frown - See schwag.
Bubbler - A handheld water pipe, often made from glass, that has a chamber and a mouthpiece extending outward or up.
Bucket Bong - See gravity bong.
Bud - See marijuana.
Buddha - See marijuana.
Buzz - Slight intoxication.
Buzzkill - An event that eliminates or reduces an intoxication.
Cake - See marijuana.
Cancer Paper - The inner paper located near the mouthpiece of many cigars. It contains extra carcinogens and is often removed before rolling a blunt.
Cannabinoid - Any of the organic substances found in cannabis, often meaning THC.
Cannabis - A member of the hemp plant family that has a euphoric effect when consumed.
Carb - Short for carburator. A hole in a pipe or bong that is covered until the desired amount of smoke is in the chamber, then released to allow the smoke to rush into the lungs.
Cashed - When there is nothing left in a bowl except for ash.
Chamber - The part of a pipe or bong that holds the smoke to be inhaled.
Charge - See shotgun.
Cheif - To smoke marijuana, usually puffing vigorously.
Cherry - The part of the marijuana that is burning.
Chillum - A device that holds a joint and is shaped so that one can wrap their hands around it so there is no contact between the mouth and the joint.
Chronic - See nugs.
Cone - 1. A cone shaped joint. 2. See bowl.
Contact High - An intoxication from second hand marijuana smoke.
Cooked - When all the marijuana has been smoked in a joint or bowl.
Cottonmouth - Dryness of the mouth caused by smoking marijuana.
Creeper - Marijuana with a longer onset, meaning it takes longer for the effects to take place. It often makes up for lost time with a very pleasant high.
Crypt - See kind bud.
Dank - Marijuana that is particularly wet or moist.
Dealer - One who sells drugs.
Dime/Dimebag - Ten dollars worth of marijuana.
Dimespot - An area where you can purchase marijuana off the street.
Dirtweed - See Schwag.
Doh Doh - See Kind Bud.
Dolja - See marijuana.
Doobie/Doob - See joint.
Dope - A general narcotic term, often meaning marijuana.
Dro - See hydro.
Drought - A period of time in which little or no marijuana is available.
Dry - Without marijuana.
Dub - Twenty dollars worth of marijuana.
Easy Bake - An individual with a low tolerance to marijuana.
Elbow - A pound of marijuana.
Elevator - A hit in which the person kneals down, breathes heavily for a period of time, then receives a shotgun(see defintition) while rising slowly to their feet. Can be dangerous but very intense.
Eyeball - To determine the weight of a bag of marijuana without using a scale or other tools.
Faded - See high.
Fatty - A thick joint.
Fiend - 1. To desire drugs 2. One who desires drugs.
Fire - Potent.
Ganja/Ganga - See marijuana.
Geeking/Geekin' - To act silly or laugh excessively while high, usually by inexperienced smokers.
Generation Joint - A joint rolled out of leftover roaches.
Grass - See marijuana.
Gravity Bong - A smoking device that uses suction to fill the chamber, then pushes the smoke into the lungs.
Greens - The reservation of the first puff in a smoke session.
Gun - See shotgun.
Guts - The tobacco that has been removed from a cigar in order to refill it with marijuana.
Hammer - A glass pipe shaped loosely like a hammer.
Hash/Hashish - Oil or tar created from cannabis containing a high concentration of THC.
Headshop - A shop that sells marijuana related products, usually pipes and bongs.
Hemp - A plant closely related to the cannabis plant that is traditionally used industrially for making rope, clothing, and jewelry. It contains only trace amounts of THC.
Herb - See marijuana.
High - Intoxicated on marijuana.
Hit - An inhalation or puff of marijuana.
Hogleg - A blunt that is rolled using multiple cigars, often containing an ounce or more.
Hoint - See joint.
Hookah - A waterpipe that uses a hose to hit from. They usually consist of several hoses to accommodate multiple users.
Hookup - A connection or source for drugs.
Hooter - See joint.
Hot Box - 1. To fill an enclosed area with smoke. 2. To hit a joint consistently, leaving it hot to the touch.
Hot Knives - A smoking method in which you place marijuana in between two hot knives and inhale the smoke coming off.
Hydro - Marijuana grown hydroponically(in a nutrient formula instead of soil).
Indica - A type of marijuana that causes more of a body high.
Indo - Marijuana from Indonesia.
Iron Lung - See gravity bong.
Jay - See joint.
Joint - A marijuana cigarette.
Jonesing - To crave something such as marijuana, tobacco, or other such substances.
KB - See kind bud.
Kif - Excess trichomes(crystals and hairs) that have fallen off of Cannabis flowers. These are often collected and added to other Cannabis to increase potency.
Kif Box - A box with a tight screen used to collect kif(see definition) by rubbing marijuana on the screen.
Killer/Kill - See marijuana.
Kind Bud - Naturally high quality marijuana.
Lace - To add another drug to marijuana.
LB - See elbow.
Left-handed Cigarette - See joint.
Lid - An ounce of marijuana.
Lifted - See high.
Lit - See high.
Marijuana/Marihuana - The flowering buds and leaves of the Cannabis plant. When smoked or consumed, it has a psychoactive effect.
Marinol - A prescription medication that contains synthetic THC which reduces nausea while increasing the patient's appetite.
Mary Jane - See marijuana.
Match - To contribute the same amount of marijuana as one or more participants in the smoke session.
Mex - Marijuana of poor quality, derriving from Mexico.
Mids - Marijuana of decent quality, but not extremely potent.
Moocher - See scavenger.
Mota - Marijuana(Spanish).
Munchies - Hunger brought on by marijuana.
Nickel/Nickelbag/Nick - Five dollars of marijuana.
Nug - A compact bud of marijuana.
Nugs - High quality marijuana.
O - See lid.
One-hit-shit - Marijuana that takes only one puff to reach the desired effect.
One Hitter - A pipe that holds enough marijuana for one hit.
One-hitter-quitter - See one-hit-shit.
O-Z - See Lid.
Paper - A small piece of paper used to roll tobacco or marijuana in, specially made to burn slowly.
Paraphernalia - Items that are associated with marijuana.
Piece - See pipe.
Pinch - To take a small amount from someone else's marijuana.
Pinner - A small joint.
Pipe - A device used for smoking marijuana.
Pot - See marijuana.
Potent - High THC content.
Pothead - One who smokes marijuana regularly.
Pothole - A hole in a piece clothing or other such fabrics caused by contact with burning marijuana.
Primo - Marijuana laced with cocaine.
QP - 1/4th pound of marijuana.
Quarter - 1/4th ounce of marijuana.
Reefer - See marijuana.
Regs - Marijuana of regular quality.
Resin - The oil from a cannabis plant, or the reisdue that marijuana smoke leaves behind.
Re-up - The act of a drug dealer replenishing his or her supply of merchandise. To restock.
Rip - A hit off a bong.
Ripped - See stoned.
Roach - The very end of the joint or blunt.
Roach Clips - A device used to hold the end of a joint when it gets too hot.
Roast - To run fire lightly along the joint or blunt to dry it off.
Runner - An event in which the marijuana in a joint or blunt does not burn evenly, a consquence of improper rolling.
Rush hole - See carb.
Sack - A bag of marijuana.
Sativa - A type of marijuana that causes more of a head based high.
Scavenger - An individual who intentionally stays around people for their marijuana or other object of desire.
Schwag - Marijuana of poor quality.
Scorch - To light the marijuana when it is unnecessary.
Score - To obtain drugs.
Shake - Marijuana that is powdery or not compact, often containing many seeds.
Sheesha/Shisha - See hash.
Sherlock - A pipe, often made from glass, with a mouthpiece that descends downward then ascends back upward forming a bowl. They are similar in shape to the pipe that fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes, smoked.
Shotgun - An inhalation of marijuana in which one individual puts the lit end in his or her mouth and blows the smoke into another's lungs.
Sidecar - A glass pipe that has a bowl that branches to the side.
Sinsemilla - Highly potent marijuana with no seeds.
Skin Up - To roll a joint or blunt.
Skunk - Marijuana with a skunky odor, usually containing a high amount of THC.
Slider/Slide Carb - A type of bowl and stem that slides out of the bong, acting as a carb.
Sling - To sell drugs.
Soapbar - Hash that has other ingredients added to it in order to make more money off of it. It often contains plastic and other harmful ingredients
Spacecake - A cake containing marijuana.
Spent - See cashed.
Spliff - See joint.
Spoof - See blowtube.
Spoon - A glass pipe shaped loosely like a spoon.
Stale - 1. Marijuana that has been dried excessively. 2. Smoke that has been left in an enclosed space, usually the chamber of a pipe or bong, leaving it foul tasting.
Stash - One's supply of marijuana.
Steamroller - A pipe that consists of a wide round chamber, open on both ends. The smoker's mouth goes on one end, and their hand on the other to "carb" it.
Stoned - Very intoxicated on marijuana.
Stoner - See pothead.
Strain - A specific variety of cannabis.
Stress - Commercial or low grade marijuana.
THC/Delta 9 -Tetrahydrocannabinol - The active ingredient in marijuana that causes the intoxicating effect.
Toasted - See stoned.
Toke - To smoke marijuana.
Trees - See marijuana.
Twamp - See twin.
Twin - Twenty dollars worth of marijuana.
Twinkie - See twin.
Twist up - To roll a joint or blunt.
Vaporizer - A device that heats the marijuana up enough to release the THC, but does not burn it.
Ex. 1. It's almost 4:20, get ready to light it up.
Ex. 2. I'm going to get high on 4/20 this year.
Ex. He put some angeldust in his weed.
Ex. Pass the joint, don't babysit it.
Ex. I just bought an ounce of some BC Bud.
Ex. There's alot of beans in this sack.
Ex. We can use the blowtube so my mom doesn't smell the weed.
Ex. Take this cigar and roll a blunt out of it.
Ex. Let's pick up some herb from the bodega down the street.
Ex. 1. Don't bogart that joint anymore, you've already taken four hits.
Ex. 2. That guy is such a bogart, that is his fifth hit.
Ex. Let's smoke a bowl in my new bong.
Ex. Pack the weed in the bowl so we can get stoned.
Ex. We got a brick of some really good bud.
Ex. Let's smoke another bowl in the bubbler.
Ex. I didn't smoke very much, so I only have a buzz.
Ex. Seeing the police car was a buzzkill.
Ex. Make sure you take out the cancer paper before you roll that up.
Ex. I know this hash was fake because the test didn't find a single cannabinoid.
Ex. I'm going to grow a cannabis plant in my closet.
Ex. The chamber is full, let go of the carb
Ex. This bowl is cashed.
Ex. If the bowl is cashed leave the rest of the smoke in the chamber for me.
Ex. Hand me that joint, so I can cheif on it for a while.
Ex. I think the cherry fell out of the joint.
Ex. I'm feeling sick today so we might want to use the chillum.
Ex. 1. Roll up another cone for for me.
Ex. Being in this car so long gave me a contact high.
Ex. This joint is cooked.
Ex. Get some water, that bowl gave me cottonmouth.
Ex. This bud must be some creeper, I wasn't high until just now.
Ex. I got some weed and it was some dank.
Ex. I'm going to call my dealer to find some weed.
Ex. If you have ten bucks we can buy a dime.
Ex. Let's go to the dimespot and pick up a sack.
Ex. We got some killer dope last week.
Ex. I wish this drought would end so we can toke up again.
Ex. I have been dry for over a week now.
Ex. I know a guy who will deliver a fat dub to us.
Ex. That guy is a real easy bake, he got high off only one hit.
Ex. I'm going to buy an elbow to start dealing.
Ex. After I took that elevator I was blown.
Ex. I don't have a scale so I'm just going to have to eyeball this sack.
Ex. We smoked a huge fatty last night.
Ex. 1. I fiend every day if I don't get to smoke.
Ex. 2. I've been such a fiend since this dry spell.
Ex. This is some fire ass weed.
The first time that girl got high she was geeking hardcore.
Ex. I've got some roaches if you want to roll a generation joint.
Ex. One hit off this gravity bong, and you'll be blazed.
Ex. Let me hit the joint first, I called greens on it.
Ex. Empty the guts out of that cigar so we can roll this blunt.

Ex. Pack a bowl in the hookah and let's get stoned.
Ex. Let me call my hookup to find some weed.
Ex. 1. Let's hot box my car tonight.
Ex. 2. Don't hot box that jay again, it burned me last time.
Ex. Let's smoke using the hot knives method.
Ex. Hydro gets me so much higher than regular weed.
Ex. This indica has me glued to the chair.
Ex. Let's save up so money to buy some killer indo.
Ex. Roll up another joint.
Ex. Man, I'm jonesing, let's smoke a fatty.
Ex. I sprinkled some kif on this weed so it should get us very high.
Ex. I bought this kif box so I can keep all the crystals that fall off my buds.
Ex. My dealer says he has kind bud instead of regs now.
Ex. I'm going to lace this with some coke.
Ex. We're going to pick up a lid tomorrow.
Ex. Let's go smoke some marijuana.
Ex. My aunt is in chemotherapy and takes Marinol so she eats well.
Ex. If you have some weed, I'll match you a blunt and we can smoke two.
Ex. This mex doesn't even get me high.
Ex. We bought a bag of some alright mids.

Ex. I can't afford any KB so I guess I'll just get some stress.
Ex. Hydro has a lot of THC in it.
Ex. Let's go have a toke after work.
