Crayfish do not mind being 'handled' as long as it is done properly.
The more they are handled, the tamer they will become.
On the BlueCrayfish Forum under "Taxonomy/Species identification"
"induced blue" O. durelli, you can see a crayfish
which has been in the aquarium for over 2 years now.
Should I reach in to try and get her, she will attempt to pinch me immidiatly,
as she has not been handled much at all, only the odd time when cleaning the aquarium.
If anyone feels safe enough to handle a Crayfish, then they should not be afraid to do so.
On the other hand I would not recommend to pick up a freshly moulted crayfish,
as they are very soft and easily hurt!!
Some more pictures of Crays!
Hillside Monongalensis, again living in a bucket, and only about an inch and a half long.
A second Hillside living in a bucket also, a bit bigger then 2 inches.
He will try and pinch, as they are a bit feistier.
Last but not least, my mountain monongalensis named scheister *L*
He has the luxury of living in a aquarium, and he is so cute eating the Pea.
Same Cray just scooped out of the aquarium.
And now he is ready to get back in to the Aquarium.
