NUTRITION INFORMATION

In order to remain physically fit, it is important to not forget about nutrition. Eating right is vital in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Food is the fuel that powers our body.

It is necessary to eat a well balanced diet, and the food pyramid helps us distinguish each food group and how many servings a person should eat a day. This method is criticized today, because it doesn’t take into account the age/specific needs of an individual. Also, researchers believe that certain food group servings should be reduced/increased.

However, the food pyramid is still a helpful tool in determining a basic understanding of an individual’s food intake. Since the pyramid may be different for other people, here is a table showing the amount of servings needed in reduced/increased calorie* diets.

*A calorie is the amount of ENERGY needed to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water (aprox.. 4 cups) from 59* F to 61* F (3,500 calories in 1 pound of body weight)
