A Few Things To Keep In Mind

A few things to remember that will help you on your way to becoming physically fit:

1) Evaluate how you THINK about your workouts-Always have a fitness plan before you exercise and try to stick to it as best as you can. Don't think of exercise as a "job", rather, think of it as a treat for your body and mind to get in shape and feel good. Even though it takes time and can be painful, exercise is something that should be an integral part of everyone's life who is able to train, even if you're not planning to run marathons or play in highly competitive teams. When you train for a long period of time, it shows, and it is one of the greatest rewards you can give yourself-and only you earned it.

2) Set realistic measurable goals (short and long term)- Don't set out to be the top athlete when you're just starting, but be your own trainer and try to better your times and performance. If you like, train with others that have the same interests in sports and exercise that you do, and help each other out as far as keeping them on track and motivated. Once you reach your long/short term goals, you can give yourself a pat on the back for getting where you wanted. But if you are unable to reach a certain goal in the time you expected, don't think it wasn't worth it, because if you made an honest effort and enjoyed it at least somewhat, that's what's most important.

3) Do what is most effective for you-If you like to go by the books or the videos, take advantage of these tools. But don't be afraid to work up a plan for yourself-even if you're not a professional. The important thing is that you don't train over your limit and get hurt, because injury only prolongs the time that you have to wait before training, and is, of course, painful. If you wish, go to a local gym and talk to one of the trainers there and get an idea of what might be good for you, without causing damage to your body. If the need is there and you have the money, a personal trainer isn't a bad idea.

4) Let athletes inspire not frustrate you-The worst thing you can do is get worked up about how pro-athletes are "ideal" and that you can never get where they are. Even though not everyone can make it to the top, it doesn't mean your training isn't worth it. Excercise is something you do for yourself, and you should be happy with the positive changes it does to your body, big or small.
