Tenets and Principles of Tae Kwon Do

Tenets of Tae Kwon Do:
A tenet is an opinion, principle, or doctrine which a person holds or maintains as true.  Tae Kwon Do aims to acheive these tenets:

  1. Courtesy
  2. Integrity
  3. Perseverance
  4. Self-Control
  5. Indomitable Spirit
Tae Kwon Do Principle:
A way of LIFE.  It is a common observation that most individuals belong to a larger part of a group and that group exists within even a greater part of a whole-- society and societies coexist inside of the greatest system--earth.  Every entity interacts and coexists with one another.  In such conditions, conflicts of all levels are inevitable, but certainly preventable.  There seem to exist three different sets of conflict-- Man vs. Man, Man vs. Nature, and Man vs. Himself.  The principles of Tae Kwon Do strive to provide and understanding that will guide individuals to develop mental skills to control these conflicts and to exist and coexist in a place with unified harmony.

The basic principles of Tae Kwon Do are broken down into five elements of belief: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit.  These five tenets of Tae Kwon Do are merely the beginning of understanding Tae Kwon Do and our very existance-- in the physical, the mental, and the spiritual sense.

Tae Kwon Do Code of Conduct:

  1. Be loyal to your King.
  2. Be obedient to your parents.
  3. Be honorable to your friends
  4. Make a clean kill.
