What to expect from us


Expect us to provide a safe and clean training environment that allows you to learn and train to a high level of proficiency in the martial arts without the fear of being bullied or criticized. Also expect that we will train you to understand the dynamaics of conflict whether verbal or physical and how to deal with both depending upon the level of response required to protect yourself and family.

What we expect from you


We expect you to be at class on time, respectful of your instructors, other students, and guests of the school. We also expect that you will take your training seriuosly as we take our responsibility to train you very seriuosly. You will be shown the techniques needed for each level of advancement and you are expected to practice them thoroughly on your own time. A black belt can be bought for $10.00 but earning one is a different endeavor altogether.

Why are there so many different styles to choose from? Answer: The martial arts developed from military training taught to virtually ever army that has ever been raised in the history of mankind. So is there any wonder there aren't more styles?

Common misconceptions about the martial arts


Martial artists are bullies and love to fight. Reality-few martial artists ever need to use their skills because they learn enough about human behavior, body language, and have enough confidence in their skill to avoid many of lifes more threatening situations. The best defense is to be aware of your surroundings, anticipate problems, and avoid them before they occur, much like life itself.

What is Kenpo?
Kenpo uses hard, fast strikes to vital points throughout the body, take-downs involving high impact throws, and many joint and limb destruction techniques, usually as follow-ups take-downs. There are also blocks from attacks such as punches and defenses and disarmament of offensive weapons. The name works in two ways: "ka" ("long life"), "ju" ("happiness"), "ken" ("fist"), "bo" ("style") or "ka" ("karate"), "ju" ("judo"/"jujutsu"), "ken" ("kenpo"), "bo" (Boxing an Kenpo emerged as the core around which this new art was built. Although uncredited by name, other influences included American Boxing and Escrima and Arnis. From its beginnings, Kenpo was an eclectic and adaptive art. As time has passed, Kajukenbo has continued to change and evolve. Currently, there are a few distinct, "recognized" branches of Kajukenbo: Kenpo ("Emperado Method" or "Traditional Hard Style"), Tum Pai, Chu'an Fa, Wun Hop Kuen Do, and Gaylord Method. In addition, there are numerous "unrecognized" branches, including CHA-3 and Kenkabo. While this may be confusing for an outsider, it is the essence of the art. Students are not required to mimic the teacher, but are encouraged to develop their own "expression" of the art. Around two thousand years old, Chuan Fa is an art based on ancient Chinese technique that have recently been assimilated into what is now know in modern day as mixed martial arts or ju jitsu. Much of this system of fighting can be found in the current more popular arts such as ju jitsu, escrima, mixed martial arts, grappling and close quarter combat.
Because it was originally a system that was used by monks, the system relies upon the use of ones own body and the surrounding environment rather than concealed or non-concealed weapons. Brute force is not a requirement but training is vigorous and physically intense.
Students strive to develope timing, coordination, balance, physical fitness, and mastery of the laws of physics and nature as they apply to self defense and interpersonal conflict.
