Skydive Gear

This page shows you some of the gear you'll be using. A quick read of this will give a bit of knowledge and help you know what your looking at when you're at the Drop Zone.

The Aircraft

The aircraft used at Peterlee is a Cessena 182, similar to the one shown here. It is a good aircraft that can carry lifts of upto four people and the pilot. In the case of student courses the lift consists of 3 students and an Instructor.

Parachute Rig

For those doing a RAPS course you will be equipped with a Static Line Parachute rig. It consists of a main canopy, reserve canopy and an Automatic Activation Device (AAD)which will automatically fire your reserve if you are falling too fast at 1000 feet, as a compulsory safety measure.

Altimeter

You'll be fitted with an Altimeter that measures your height by measuring the astmospheric pressure. You'll use it to establish your height for the landing pattern as taught in your course.

Jumpsuit

You'll give me given a jumpsuit ro go over your own clothes. The jumpsuit is required to make sure no part of your clothes can get caught on the aircraft and keep you aerodynmic.

What you will need

Typical british weather dictates that it will be freezing when you go to do your jump so being warm is a priority.

The clothes you wear should be loose fitting so they don't restrict your movement and I wouldn't suggest wearing your Armani jeans either - your liable to get dirty, especially on landing.

A pair of tracksuit trousers, a jumper and a pair of old trainers are great. Boots are not allowed as they don't have the absortion factor that trainers do and wont help if you land heavily.

The technical gear, such as parachutes, altimeters, etc will be provided by the centre. All the gear is proffesionally checked so no worries there!
