Chapter 33
Kristina had just finished pulling on the tight fitting tank top and adjusting her cut off blue jean shorts when Kevin knocked on the bedroom door.
She opened it to find him smiling. "Hey Kev," she said as she went back to the mirror and tousled her hair to give it more body.
"I told Fi that she could take a shower in the guest bathroom and she wants to know if she can borrow something to wear."
"Sure. Want me to take it to her?" she asked.
Kevin paused. "Yeah, if you don’t mind."
Smiling, Kristina pulled out a pair of shorts and a peasant top for Fiona. "Anything else?" she said as she looked up.
"No. Thanks."
"D is in the shower and should be out in a few minutes. Do you mind starting the grill for us?"
He laughed as he followed her out of the bedroom. "Not at all. I’m just glad that you asked me instead of Nick."
Kristina looked at him, puzzled. "Why is that?"
"He almost blew up his house lighting a grill. You haven’t heard that story?"
Laughing, she said. "No, but you’ll have to give me all the details later. Promise?"
He winked at her and smiled. "Oh, you bet I promise! It was a riot."
Kristina shook her head, laughing all the way to the bathroom. Reaching the door, she knocked softly and then called out to Fiona. "Hey girl, it’s me!"
Fiona opened the door and motioned for Kristina to come in. "Did you bring me some clothes?" she asked.
"Yeah. What’s wrong?"
"Nothing" Fiona lied as she refused to meet Kristina’s gaze. "I’m fine."
"No you’re not. What happened? Did Kevin upset you?"
Fiona began to get dressed, silent tears cascading down her flushed cheeks. "Not directly."
"Then what happened?"
"Nick came in here while I was showering."
"Oh My God! What the hell did he want?" Kristina asked furiously.
"Relax, Kris. He didn’t do anything that I didn’t want him to do."
Kristina raised an eyebrow and looked at Fiona disapprovingly. "And just what does that mean?"
"It means" Fiona said as she ran her hands through her hair. "That he made me realize that as much as I love being with Kevin, that I can’t get past my attraction to him. I’ve got to go with it and find out where it is going to lead."
"And the tears are because...?"
Fiona sighed heavily. "Because I don’t want to hurt Kevin or make him mad at me. AND, I don’t want to start World War III with him and Nick."
"It will all work out just fine, punkin. I promise!" Kris said as she picked up Fiona’s wet towel from the bathroom floor and grabbed the bathing suit from the counter top. "Now, I’ll bring you a hair dryer and then you can come out and knock them dead!"
"You are too much, Kris. You know it?" Fiona laughed.
Giving her a wink as she started out the bathroom door, Kris laughed. "That’s what I’ve been told!"
