Super Smash Brothers Melee - Review

If you can find any better 4-player fighting game on the Game-Cube than this, then e-mail me at Bball348@aol.com. I dare you! You’ll probably have a rough time finding one; cause there is no 4-player fighting game better than SSBM for the GCN!

Graphics: There are unbelievable graphics in this game. I’ve seen this phrase on so many sites, I’m even gonna include it on this review: You can even see the friggin’ texture on Mario’s overalls! There are all sorts of effects that happen when you do an attack. A big flash when you do a powerful move, very detailed fire effects. Even the levels have been given a better look than the first SSB. The characters moves have also been updated to match the detail of everything else. When fox does a throw he shoots a laser at the guy, Samus’ energy ball looks so much better. I can’t even go on about graphics cause the beauty of it all will make me cry. Wait, wait. I will say one things about the graphics: when there’s a lot of stuff going on at the same time during a fight (a whole bunch of pokémon come out at once, a bunch of stuff blows up at once, etc.) the game-play does slow down. But it’s not that noticeable. Graphics – 9/10

Sound/Music: If you’ve read my SSB review for the N64 then you know that it had one of the highest ratings of for sound of all the games. SSBM isn’t that much different. Although they do have a few more new songs, and the sound is all digital so it’s crisp and clear, I thought it could’ve been better. But since they did do such I good job, I’m not gonna whine too much. If you want to know more detail about sound for SSBM just read the Sound/Music portion of the SSB for N64 review. It’s basically the same. Sound/Music 9/10

Replay Value: When I wrote the review for SSB 1, I had to divide it into two sections: 1-Player and Multi-Player. This time I don’t have to do that cause the people at Nintendo BEEFED UP (and I mean WAY up) the 1-player mode. You have way more things to do in 1-player, and you also have the same classics you had in multi-player (with more types of items, and other stuff like that). There is so much to do in 1-player. Multi-man Melee, Classic Mode, Adventure Mode, All-Star Mode, Home-run Contest, and, of course, break the targets and board the platforms. I have to commend the guys at Nintendo for doing such a good job with 1-player mode. Replay Value: 8/10

As I said in my SSB 1 review, "Super Smash Brothers will go down as a Nintendo classic." I'm not backing out on that saying, and I'm gonna make a new one. "Super Smash Brothers Melee will go down as a classic Nintendo sequel." This game is well worth the $45 I spent on it. Overall: 8.6/10
