XTreme Wolverine Season 2 Episode 3: ”City Of Demons
Written by Greg D’Angelo
Scene 1: We start out with an overview shot of Los Angeles (city of angels in your dreams). We go through a series of shots showing various parts of the city, each time getting closer. We come to a shot of a block, where we see the tops of the buildings. It is then we hear the scream of a woman. A dark figure runs past the camera and across from roof top to roof top. The pictures keep moving for a few more shots. Finally we arrive in an alleyway, where a woman stands above a man, and 3 men approach her. “Take my money, just don’t hurt me.” “Oh, we won’t hurt you.” says the 1st man. “Not until after. Then you die,” adds the one standing next to him. The 3rd steps towards her, and grabs her purse. “Thanks for the bus fair lady,” he says. He spots her gold chain. “This is nice,” he continues. “I think I’ll take it.” And with that, he rips it off of her neck. “You’re always so thoughtful, always thinking of gifts for your honey,” says the 1st man. Just then their faces morph, they are vampires. But their luck is over as a hero swings down on them from the roof top. Two fall to the floor, and one charges at him, but gets tripped. The others get up, but recieve stakes that fly out from inside this strange hero’s sleeves into their chests. The other springs up, more quickly then expected, and knocks the guns out of his hands. He grabs the vamp, and headbuts him. Quickly, a sword is drawn, and off comes the last vampire’s head. “Are you ok?” he says turning to the woman. She is in tears, but nods her head. He kneels before her husband. “He seems fine, but he should get checked out.” “OK,” she says lightly. He takes out a cell phone and makes a call. “Yes, it’s me. Look, I’m on 5th street . . .” He pauses as he listens to the other end. “Yes, I went out. Damn it, shut up a second! Just send an ambulance over here, there’s been an attack. Vampires.” The woman looks confused, but says: “Thank you.” “Just doing my job,” he says. “I should go look for the ambulance." He turns and walks out of the alleyway, and we see it’s . . . . . . Angel (yes David Boreanaz from the show Angel).
Opening Credits
Scene 2: Logan is exercising at the mansion. The Professor, James, and Valerie walk in. “Well, look who’s up again,” says James. Logan turns to see them. “You should be resting!” says Valerie. “No thanks, I heal quick.” “Logan, if you have a minute I was wondering if I could have a word with you,” says the Professor. “Sure thing, just let me wash up.” Logan walks over and grabs a towel. Logan wipes the sweat from his face, and turns back to the crew. Valerie opens a folder. “A colleague of mine in L.A. has reported some strange findings,” begins the Professor. Then Valerie hands Logan a few photos, some showing people found dead with bite marks, others are gruesome displays of people ripped apart. Nightcrawler goes over to a machine and starts exercising. “Most attacks seem to be done by vampires, but a lot seem to have a higher purpose. Valerie and I both sense something bad happening in L.A.” “And now you want me to go there and stop it? What about my vacation?” “This is a simple spy mission,” says Valerie. “We need you to find out what is happening in the city of angels.” “Valerie is right, this seems too much for any one X-Man. When you find out what is happening give a call to me,” the Professor says handing Logan a cell phone. "And we will come.” “Gripe,” mumbles Logan. "No rest for the wicked.” “I love that album,” shouts James. He pushes a button, and music (Tattooed Dancer by Ozzy Osbourne) starts playing. Logan looks at his silly brother, with a grin, and the scene fades out slowly.
Scene 3: Logan is on his bike, he rides into LA at night. “I don’t see any angels,” he mumbles to himself. Suddenly marching is heard. He gets off his bike and looks around. Turning a corner, he is surprised to see an army. They are demons, dressed in blue (somewhat nazi-like) uniforms. Their face is a mixture of brown and black. Logan doesn’t know who they are, but knows they are trouble, and to many for him to deal with now. He follows them stealthily, keeping back as far as possible, and even climbing to a roof top to watch from above. “Friend of theirs?” says a voice. Logan looks over to see Angel.
Scene 4: “I don’t have time for you,” Logan growls, and turns back to look at the demons, but they are gone. “You let them get away!” “You don’t want to be following them. They’re trouble.” “And how would you know?” “They are 'The Scourge'. I’ve dealt with them before.” “Probably working with them.” “That’s, not entirely untrue, but . . .” Logan is not interested in hearing his story, and interrupts by extracting his claws. Angel is in shock, and dodges out of the way of a slice to his gut. Angel raises his hands, and wooden stakes appear under his wrists. “Nice trick,” Wolverine exclaims. They charge at each other, but Angel leaps over Logan, and kicks him. He falls down face first, but turns over just in time to block Angel trying to drive a stake into his arm. Logan rolls back wards, and rises to his feet. Angel charges in, and Logan lets his opponent do the work. When Angel is near, he spins, hitting him in the back of the head with the flat part of his claws. Angel then falls and Logan tries to jump on him, to impale him. However, Angel jumps onto his feet. Logan misses, and takes a punch in the face. He shrugs off the hit, and the two lock up. They struggle for control, and wind up dancing on the roof top. They move too close to the edge, and both fall off. Angel manages to move (or kind of float) backwards, and grab onto a flag pole, but Logan falls all the way. He hits the ground with a thump. He reaches in his pocket, and pulls out a broken cell phone. “Damn, no back up.”
Scene 5: “I think I’ve found it,” says Wesley, an employee of Angel’s. “Tomorrow is Lized Berethed. It’s an ancient demon holiday, but I need to read more on it.” “Good, you do that, and I’ll go kill them.” “Why don’t you tell me about this person . . . who gave you these scratches.” “He was tracking the demons, and when I showed up, seemed to think I was an enemy. Oh, and did I mention he had claws that appeared on his hands.” “Are you sure he wasn’t a demon?” “He smelled human!” “No human can do that, unless . . .” “Unless what?” “Do you have a good description of him?” “Yeah, I have his picture here,” Angel replies handing over a sketch of Logan, that is hand drawn.” Wesley takes it. “I’ll get people looking into it immediately.” “Good.” Angel takes a leisurely walk to his office. Just as he steps inside, the phone rings. “Angel here,” he says answering it. “It’s Wesley, I know who, or what that guy you fought was.” “Well?” “He’s a mutant!” “A what?” “Several years ago people’s DNA started to change. Some have evolved into what we might look at as super powers, others simply deformities. A phenomenon happening all over the world, but primarily in the eastern part of the United States.” “Tell me, how did you find all this out, so fast?” “Apparently this man, and his organization, are not trying to stay hidden. They do not seem to believe they have anything to hide” “So what else do we know?” “He came from Canada, where he was an an agent . . .” “So he’s a Canadian spy?” “No, not anymore. He left there, and joined with a non-government organization here in the US. “Alright, look, we have to find out why we are not utilizing mutants as employees here. But the important thing for now is finding him, those demons, and what they’re both up to.”
Scene 6: Logan limps to a hotel, and gets a room. He sits down, and turns on the TV. He flips around for a while then gets fed up, and turns it off. “No damn cartoons when you need them.” Just then there is a knock at the door. He opens it, and sees Angel. Logan goes to raise his arm. “Look,” says Angel raising his hand for a wait signal. “We got off to a bad start before.” Logan walks inside. “Come,” he says inviting Angel in to talk. “So why are you here?” Logan asks taking a seat. “To ask for your help in fighting these demons.” “Just what are, them?” Logan asks. “They are The Scourge. A demon army, who hates humans, half breed demons, and any that deal with humans.” “You seem capable of handling this.” “Yes, but . . . there is strength in . . . in working together. Especially against them. What do you say?” “You want me, to work with you?” Angel nods. “I got a job.” “Then how about donating some time?” “You drive a hard bargain. I’ll do it.” “We should go back to my office, where my friend is researching the demons.” “Not until you tell me one thing.” “What?” “You said you worked with them, why?” “If you had tried to listen before, you would have found out that it was a deception to get inside and learn their plans. You should know about that, being a former agent.” “You know about me, I’m impressed.” “Not much, only an over view. Can we go now?” “As you wish Bub.”
Scene 7: We see a clock says 12:01. The camera zooms out and we see it is a car radio. Angel is driving in a dark red convertible, with Logan in the passenger seat. “Nice ride,” says Logan. Just then they are passing by a cemetery, and Angel’s cell phone rings. "Yeah,” he says. “Angel, I’ve found out what is going on,” says Wesley on the other end. Angel hooks his cell phone to the radio. “It is a raising ritual. A demon lord that has slept gaining strength of souls around it, waiting for its worshipers to call it forth again.” “Great, so we not only have to deal with The Scourge but now their god as well.” Logan then makes a weird face. “It’s probably not really a god, but a ruler who's people label him a god.” “Angel,” Logan interrupts. Angel then pauses, and looks around. “Wes, I gotta go!” Angel says, hanging up the phone. “Who woulda` thought, the cemetery they needed is right here.” “How did you know?” Angel asks. “I can smell em, and I hear sounds.” “A human with enhanced senses, hmm.” “You want me to explain mutant abilities, or do we go bash some demons?” Angel pulls the car over, and they jump out.
Scene 8: Logan runs into the cemetery with Angel following behind him. They follow a road, and slow down, when mummerings become louder, and they see they are very close. A shaman is chanting, and 20 soldiers are on their knees. The tombstone breaks apart, and the ground shakes. The 2 heroes charge in, but are too late. The Earth opens, and the ancient demon rises. “Kalashumar,” says the shaman, and bows. The demon slaps him, and he goes flying across the cemetery. “You dare disturb me!?” The rest of The Scourge get up and run, but Kalashumar is too fast, as he hurls energy balls at them. Soon they fall, and only 3 are able to retreat. Logan and Angel ambush them. Logan’s claws make a quick disposal of one, and Angel niftily uses defense tactics on another. However, the third escapes. Logan runs to go after Kalashumar, but it vanishes. The demon charges Angel, who leaps over him. Angel kicks him in the rump & the knee, and he falls to his knees. Angel quickly grabs it’s neck, and snaps it. Angel turns to Wolverine, “Where’s the demon god?” “We’re late, he got away.”
Scene 9: The demon shaman wakes up. There is blood on his face, and his body is nearly broken. “My lord,” he says, though no one else is around. He manages to get up, and limps away.
Scene 10: “He went that way,” Logan says. “Let’s follow,” replies Angel and the two follow the trail. All is quiet, and they see something up ahead. Then a sound of a twig breaking is heard. They turn around, and see the shaman. “What are you doin’ here?” asks Logan. Angel grabs him, “Tell us how to stop it!” “Hmmm, this Angel has style,“ Logan says to himself. “I don’t know, honest.” Angel throws him down. Wolverine’s claws pop out. “I think he’s lying,” Logan says. “There may be one way,” the shaman says. “Now would be a good time,” replies Angel. “I know a spell, it may control him.” “Good, do it," says Angel. “But?" Logan questions. “Don’t we want it dead?” Angel turns around. “Yes, but we’ll worry about that later. For now we have to slow it down.”
Scene 11: Kalashumar tramples down the street, his steps leaving cracks in the ground. The people see him and run in terror. Some are not lucky enough, as he swats them aside. He then walks over to a car and hurls it at the people fleeing. It lands with a crash, and blows up. When the smoke clears, there is only bodies on the ground. He walks to another car and punches it through the hood . . . a moment later it blows up.
Scene 12: Logan, and company run down the street. It is easy to see the trail left by Kalashumar, and just as easy to catch up to him. He is big and strong, but a slow moving creature. The shaman gasps. “Easy,“ says Angel. “Yeah, we’re demon hunters.” adds Logan. Kalashumar hears them and turns around. He shouts something that sounds like “Kilto Tormar.” They look to the shaman. “I think he was talking to me. I believe he thinks I'm a traitor, and wants to kill me.” “Well, I happen to agree with him there,” jokes Logan. “About the traitor part, right, not the killing.” “Right,” says Angel. “You help us, and we don’t need to kill you.” Logan grins enjoying the shaman’s fear. Then they charge at the gargantuan demon, who is standing about 7 feet tall. Kalashumar does tend to tower over his foes. Logan extracts his claws, and Angel pulls two knives out. When they slash at Kalashumar, they find his skin is hard as stone, and he merely kicks them aside. Meanwhile, the shaman starts chanting. Logan gets knocked to the floor, and Kalashumar goes to step on him. He puts his claws up to block. Kalashumar is stepping on spikes, and is in pain. But he just laughs, as it is nothing fatal, while his crushing Logan will be. Angel recovers, and jumps up to his face, landing a nice kick between the eyes. Kalashumar falls backwards and lands on his back. Both Angel and Wolverine run over to finish him, but he vanishes again. Kalashumar materializes behind them, and slaps them. They fall, and he goes to jump on them. “Freeze!” the shaman commands. Kalashumar freezes in midair, and then steps down onto the ground, as if he was on a ladder. “It workeed!” he exclaims, and makes a wicked smile. Logan quickly gets to his feet, and readies himself to go for a kill on the demon. “You think you can stop Kalashumar, the great god of us demons?” “Wait,” says Angel getting up. “If we don’t stop him, he will destroy everyone, including demons.” "Perhaps, but that is one guaranteed way to eradicate you humans.” “I knew we couldn’t trust you!” growls Logan “Kill them!” demands the shaman.
Scene 13: Wolverine and Angel jump into the car. Logan turns to look, and Kalashumar is seen lumbering towards them. “Drive,” he shouts. “It’s gaining.” The car speeds off, and leaves the demon far behind. “Any ideas?” asks Logan. Angel tosses his phone to Logan. "Hit 1 one speed dial.” “Hello,” says Wesley on the other end. “Yeah this is Logan, I’m in a car with your boss, running from a giant demon that’s trying to kill us.” “They raised it already? It was supposed to be tomorrow.” “Check your clock bub, it’s after 1 AM! Now how do we kill it?!” “Well um, that is I don’t know. I would have to research more.” “And you’re supposed to know this stuff. Goodbye!” Logan replies, hanging up. “What?” asks Angel. “Your big lead doesn’t know about killing it."
Scene 14: The shaman runs after his new pet, but is stopped by 5 other members of The Scourge. “Well, what are you doing here?” one asks (and it is the one that fled earlier). “I am going to destroy the protectors, then I will destroy the humans.” “As it was written, 'Kalashumar shall rise and wipe out civilization'.” “You forget the rest of the teaching," corrects the shaman. “To rule and to serve demon law. And I being the shaman know the law best.” "You fool,” says the other, pushing him to the ground. “I am your leader, you do as I say.” The shaman only laughs. “I would look behind you.” “Cowardly priest,” he says. He lands a kick in the shaman’s rib, but is grabbed from behind. Kalashumar takes him, and shoves him down his throat. The shaman rises to his feet. “Now, I am in command. You follow what I decide, or die.” The others nod, and they march off.
Scene 15: We then see a shot through the rear view mirror of the empty street. “He’s gone,” says Logan not understanding why, but glad. “I don’t get it. I thought it could teleport.” Just then an image of Kalashumar, the shaman, and 4 other demons appears. “OK, I didn’t expect it to be able to do that,” Logan says, half pissed, half shocked. Angel pulls the car over. “What are you doing?” “Look, we have to stop it. I am not leading that thing back to my friends.” “You’re right. If we don’t they will kill everyone they see along the way.” They jump out of the car, and Angel goes to the trunk. He pulls out a broad sword, and tosses an axe to Logan. They turn and await the demons. “So, two against six. I like those odds," says Logan calmly. “Good," replies Angel. “One of us has to remain the optimist.” The demons charge in, Kalashumar a bit slower, and the shaman stays behind. “Take out the shaman, I’ll distract Kalashumar,” Angel says tapping Logan on the shoulder. They meet the demons, and Wolverine swings the axe at one. Another jumps on his back, and stops him. The 1st goes to punch him, but gets a hand lopped off by Logan’s free hand. He tosses the other to the ground, and buries the axe in it’s head. Meanwhile, Angel runs in plowing through the lesser demons. The 2 fall to the ground, and he goes for Kalashumar. The two fight epically, swinging, dodging, and recovering from all hits, but Kalashumar keeps the upper hand. He tackles Angel to the ground and his sword falls to the side, but he sends a stake into it’s eye. It gets mad and tosses him into a tree. Logan goes for the shaman, but sees Angel in a bad place. He hurls the axe at the great demon. It has no effect on him, but buys enough time for a recovery. Wolverine turns back for the shaman, but is stopped by two demon soldiers. He grabs the closer demon and headbutts him. He then dodges to the side, and pulls out a ninja star. He throws it into the shamans neck. “Noo,” it says vaguely. Kalashumar throws an energy ball at Angel, who jumps over it. However, it lands right on his convertible, and blows it up. “Now that was evil,” he says charging in. As they clash he says, “Evil - has no - respect - for great cars.” Angel fights more furiously, and more determined now, but still cannot stop Kalashumar. Logan gets knocked down from behind, and takes a pummeling from the soldier. He spins his body around, and stabs a leg, thoroughly, with his claws. It screams, and falls, giving him the opening to finish it. He runs behind Kalashumar and kneels. Angel notices, and gives a questioning look. Logan raises both claws into the air, and yells: “Do it!” Angel jumps at the demon, pushing it back. Logan kicks it’s leg for support, and it topples over. It lands with impact on the claws, and they pierce right through, yet the demon lives. “Come on, you’ve been impaled. You must die.” “Never,” it responds. “No mortal can kill me.” ”Well, then I’ll just beat you up for all eternity,” Angel jokes. However, the punches he delivers are no joke. Pretty soon, he starts to bash Kalashumar’s chest in, and smoke is leaking out from the holes. “Pull your claws out,” he says as he grabs onto Kalashumar. Logan obliges. Sure enough his life force is lost to the air. Once gone, Kalashumar becomes incorporeal, and disappears. Logan rises, but something is wrong. Angel's skin is smoking. They look up, and see the sun is starting to rise. They both take off their coats, and Angel is covered up.
Scene 16: Wolverine charges into the office of Wolfram & Hart carrying Angel. Security goes to him. One tells him: “You can’t come in here.” But he doesn’t listen. He just goes for the elevators. Inside he puts Angel down, and the guards come over. “Halt!” Logan extracts his claws, but his arm is pulled to the side. The guard is in shock, both from seeing the claws, and seeing Angel. “It’s ok, just a guest. The guards walk back to their stations, and the elevator door closes. “Figures, the one time security is on alert, they try to stop the good guys from entering,” jokes Angel.
Scene 17: Logan is sitting in Angel’s office talking with Angel & Wesley. “Well, you guys are lucky I was right about it just being a strong demon.” “We were lucky you were in town,” Angel says to Logan. “No luck, a wise Professor told me something was happening here.” “Not Professor Page?” Wesley asks. “Yes. You know him?” “Yes, we met back in England. Must be about 10 years ago. He was the only one willing to listen when vampires were about to attack a village.“ “I’ll say hi for you.” “Thanks,” Wesley says, then turns to Angel. “Sorry, but I’m a bit tired.” “Go rest, you tend to work too hard. "Why? We have no shortage of workers here.” Wesley smiles, and makes his exit. “So this is the place. The law firm that fights in the courts by day, and on the streets by night.” “Something like that,” Angel replies. “Well, I should um, let you run the business, and get back to my own.” “Alright. Go to the roof. I will arrange a helicopter to take you anywhere you want.” “Your job has some nice perks," replies Logan. “More then you know,” Angel says opening a window, and looking out at the world that heroes must protect. Logan is somewhat shocked, that the sun doesn’t affect Angel indoors, but doesn’t comment. He only smiles and turns to leave. “Oh, and thanks. We had a good fight. Drop by whenever you're in the city of demons.” (Hero by Ozzy Osbourne enters as background music for viewers to hear). Logan nods, and replies “That’s city of Angels. I’m convinced.” Angel smiles, and turns back to the window. Wolverine then walks up to the roof, and gets on a helicopter. The scene makes a very slow fade. We see the helicopter take off from the building and flies away, as the music continues to play.
