XTreme Wolverine Season 2 Episode 10: ”For Whom The Bell Tolls"
Written by Greg D'Angelo

Scene 1: We see Wolverine walking on what looks like dry desert ground. It appears to be a scarcely populated area. He walks alone for a while, then comes upon an old man. “Greetings,” he says, “what brings you out here?” “Just talking a walk.” “Well you’re walking the wrong way, trust me, there’s nothing out here.” Wolverine shrugs in response, then continues. “You’ll see sonny, there’s no one. Just an abandoned town." Wolverine turns back with a beady eye. “Abandoned?” he mumbles, then continues. He walks a bit more, then sees a town up ahead. Even from the distance it is obvious there is no life here. “Gripe. Of all the places to take a vacation, I wind up here.” He continues to the town anyway, and soon enters. He looks around at all the burned down ruins of the place, and says; “These people really know how to have a cook out. Shame I wasn’t invited, I love barbecue.”

Scene 2: Logan is walking down a road, only he looks younger here, and dressed in cowboy fashion. A man’s voice is heard; “Stop, thief!” Out of nowhere, a man jumps on him. He counters, and tosses the guy to the side. However the guy pulls out a pipe, and hits him in the ribs. Logan grabs it as it makes impact, and pulls it away from the guy. The guy kicks him, and punches him, and he falls, but gets back up. This repeats for a while. Soon the man tires, and Logan, gives a nice 1-2 combo, and knocks him out. Logan take a pouch off of his belt, and opens it, there is a few coins, and a bunch of dollar bills. Then a shadow looms over him. He turns and sees 5 men, one who is really tall. “Quite a fight,” says one, stepping forward. “Whatever,” replies Logan not caring, and moves to walk away. The man holds up his hand. “You have strength, we can use that.” Logan squints his eyes at the remark. “Would you like a job?" the man adds. “What is the job. “I am phil, Scourge of the south and west. This is my posse, I’m sure you heard of us.” “Nope,” replies Logan, still not caring. The man next to Phil draws a gun, and the others grab theirs, but Phil motions them to relax. “The only thing you need to understand, is that we make money, lot’s of money. Logan smiles, and the six outlaws walk off together.

-Opening Credits-

Scene 3: The six enter a town, and split up. First in groups of two, then all six are apart. They each find a horse, and steal it. They meet up outside the town, and ride off, yelling cheers of victory, and the picture slowly fades out.

Scene 4: It is night, the six sit spread out before a fire. Phil calls the, all together. “We have laid low for long enough, it is time to get rich.” The others mumble sounds of excitement. “Out next target, is the bank of Jaynesville. A small enough place not to give trouble, but large enough for the cash. Blonde, Sergio, you will get get some dynamite, tonight. Tiny, go with Logan, and scout the town. My brother and I will wait here, and make the final plans.”

Scene 5: “I need a rest,” Logan says to himself. Then looks up to the hotel. “I uppose they’ll have a vacancy for an old friend.” He walks into the hotel, and then a room. “Well whaddaya know, my old room’s available,” Logan says, still talking to himself, then looks over at the broken window. “Too bad they never fixed that. He puts his bag on a table, and hops onto the bed. However he still can’t rest. He hears some creaking from the stairs. He looks over, “Now that can’t be good. You’re not supposed to hear people in an abandoned town." Foot steps are heard right outside his door. He opens and looks, and sees another door being shut. He walks over to that door, and opens it. However nothing is inside. Then he hears a voice call from back in his room; “Logan.” It sounds like the Professor, but it is very faint. He runs to his room, but no one is there. The calls again come from outside. “Logan.” He looks outside, and sees the figure of a sheriff appear. Since there is no window, he jumps out. “Logan, help meee.” Wolverine reaches out to him, but the image fades away. “I reeeally think it was a mistake coming here.”

Scene 6: It is late at night, and the 6 men approach the bank. Phil takes out the dynamite, and places it in the back. Logan lights it, and they all move back, but it does not explode. A man on the roof drops a bucket of water on it. They look confused, but realize the towns people were ready for them. They are chased away, and one takes a bullet in the shoulder. They flee into the cemetery. The guns sound further away, and slow down, but they continue on. They come to a huge mausoleum, and the biggest of the group kicks the door in. They enter, and quickly shut the door. Phil lights a torch, and they relax. Some of them are looking around. they find nice things, vases, and some jewelry. Then Phil says, “Open the coffin!” “But?” says one. “Gross,” says another. “Do it!” demands Phil. They open the coffin, and a laughter booms. All guns are drawn simultaneously. “Fools,” says a voice, “I cannot be stopped.” An image of a man with rotted flesh appears, wearing only thin stripes of cloth, like a mummy. Phil & Tiny immediately shoot at it, and then the others do so too. “I am not your enemy, you fool,” says the creature, then laughs again. The 3 other bandits run in terror, (leaving Logan, Phil, & Tiny). “But he is,” it continues, and points at Logan.

Scene 7 (For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica plays): Just then 3 more images of men appear (3 of the bandits), and draw guns. He jumps behind a barrel, and one shoots it away. He then jumps at the closet one, but goes right through it. “Definitely, a big mistake coming here.” Then Wolverine runs into an alley. Unfortunately, it is a dead end, and the ghosts keep coming. He jumps up the wall, and uses his claws to climb up, but they are moving faster then he is. Just as they get to close for comfort, the sherif appears, with his own ghostly gun, and shoots at them. They disappear. “Come on Logan, we should move.” “Obviously, you’re all dead, so you can’t be killed. But what the hell did you do to them?” “I defeated there essences. When that happens, a spirit is dispersed for a short time. Though, I do not know how long.” They walk away, and see more ghosts appear, those of normal villagers. They go back to the hotel, and the 3 angry ghosts materialize again. The sheriff blocks him from them. Then, wickedly evil laughter is heard, and all the ghosts are scared away.

Scene 8: “Hold it right there,” says a man. And they all look to see the men of the town outside, all with guns pointed at them. “Traitor,” Phil says “I’ll have your head.” “You’re wrong Bub, I’m no traitor, I was simply never loyal.” “All right, that’s enough, move it along. You’re all heading towards the jail.” The big man throws his gun away, but Phil fires at Logan, and he’s hit in the stomach. The others fire on him, he falls dead, as well as Tiny. Logan passes out from the gun shot, and the people carry him back to town. The picture fades to black, and Logan wakes up in a bed. He gets up, and goes outside. He sees the surviving 3 bandits on a stage with nooses are tied around there necks. A man walks over and says; “It is the decision of Jaynesville, that the man known as Tracey The Bold, wanted in Kansas, South Dakota, and Oklahoma for bank robbery, and in Texas, for murder during a bank robbery, be hung till death. And Blonde Wallace, wanting murderer, and raping of women of the white race all throughout Kansas, be hung till death. And Sergio Calaway, wanted in the states of Kansas, Texas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Alabama, Idaho, Wyoming, Washington and New York for multiple counts of murder, and bank robbery, and in Kentucky for killing of a deputy of the law, be hung till death.” Logan notices there is a crowd of onlookers watching, somewhat in fear of these men, but also ecstatic about there deaths. “Have you pitiful excuses for men any last words to share with us?” None of them speak, and the floor drops below them. Logan shakes his head. “You don’t approve,” asks a man. “Not particularly, no. But I am glad to see justice.” And Logan turns, and sees many people giving him an unfriendly look. He shrugs, and walks away. The sheriff runs after him. “What in heavens name is going on? Why ain’t you in bed?” “It was boring,” replies Logan, sarcastically. The Sheriff shakes his head in disbelief of lack of self concern, but doesn’t want to argue with a friend. “You helped us capture the most notorious outlaws, here is the reward I promised. He hands Logan a wad of cash. “Jaynesville owes you a debt. You have my thanks, friend.” Logan shrugs, then continues on his way.

Scene 9: “No,” The Sheriff cries. “I do not fear you anymore, I can beat you.” “I cannot be stopped, I am immortal. This is why they fear me, I can kill you all, anytime I like,” Gilliwok says, then laughs hysterically. “You lie, I have had enough of this, enough if you!” “What do you think you can do mortal?” “Fight you! Kill you!” The Gilliwok continues to laugh. “You fool! I am what keeps you alive, for I enjoy watching your antics. . .” “You can’t scare me anymore," says the sheriff. “I may not be able to kill you, but I can certainly fight you!” “You are welcome to try, and it will be very fun to see,” Gilliwok says, breaking only to laugh some more. “All of you people amuse me so. No, you I shall not kill, you are far to amusing to me. Enough,” cries the sheriff, “Fight me you coward! The Gilliwok continues laughing, then says “Perhaps later. Now it is dinner time.” Gilliwok charges at Wolverine, but the sheriff jumps in the way. They scream in unison as they meet, and the sheriff fades. “Run Logan!” “I won’t leave a friend.” “If so then save yourself, we are already dead.” The sherif’s voice fades, as he finishes talking, and Wolverine turns and runs out. He stops, and looks back. “I will find a way to free you, even the ones who don’t deserve it.”

Scene 10: Logan wakes up in his hotel room to much yelling outside. “They got the post office!” cries a man. Then he hears a woman’s scream, and a man moan from down the hall. He runs into another room, and sees a man dead on the floor, the spirit floating above him. It again laughs. “What do you want, ghost?” demands Logan. “I am more then a mere ghost. I am the haunter of ages, past and future. I am Gilliwok the transcendent one!” He charges at the sprit, but goes right through it, and slams into the wall. It grabs him, and tosses him out the window. Towns people are all over. One helps him up. He looks around, and sees total confusion, people running around like a herd of stampeding elephants. Most are running for their lives, still other try to fight the invaders. All of a sudden he is grabbed, and pulled into a house. Once inside he let’s go of Logan. Logan turns and sees the sherif, but says nothing. “Look, we know your not human.” “I am so human!” “Perhaps, but not like me. I could not have gotten shot and healed so quickly, or thrown out a window, & walked away.” “So I heal fast. Big deal.” “Not to me, but to some people. I wish you could explain this to me, but there’s no time, you must use this time to escape.” “I don’t run!” The door is kicked in, and a small group of men enter. “We have you now freak,” states one. The sheriff draws his gun, and shoots one, but the others open fire back at him, and he falls. Logan jumps out a window. Outside, bodies line the street. Above in the sky floats Gilliwok, laughing at the carnage. “You caused this, monster.” “Me? Never, I simply, helped the town to a more, peaceful sleep tonight, to cover the sounds of invaders,” replies Gilliwok, then adds more laughter. “You’re a coward, you can’t fight your own battles.” “I can, it’s just more fun to watch.” Just then, Logan is hit on the back of the head by a club, and falls. He gets up, but more people run over, and give him a beating. The ghost laughs, and the camera pulls out, showing the town is on fire. He grabs the nearest man’s leg, and trips him. He kicks another away, then darts away, leaving the town. Flames erupt behind him on his way out, and Gilliwok’s laughter is louder then ever. “Good riddance to this place," Logan says to himself.

Scene 11: Wolverine is in a library, on a computer. He types “Soul Trapping Demons,” into a generic (no name) search engine. A few junk replies pop up, mainly stuff about TV shows, and board games, but scrolling down, he finds one that says “Gilliwok Demons, they take people’s souls . . .” He clicks on it, and a new page appears. The info on the screen is too small and blurred to see, and Logan just reads to himself. However, there is a picture similar to Gilliwok on the screen. He gets up and leaves. The picture cuts to him talking to a man. “I can do it, but are you sure?” “Of course Bub, I know what I want,” Logan replies in his typical form. “As long as you are aware the price of silver lining?” “Yeah, but your not selling it to me. You’re doing it because I’m asking you nicely,” and he extracts his claws. “Yes sir.” “I have some more shopping to do now, but I’ll be back.”

Scene 12 (For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica plays): “What do you think you can do? Or will you run again?” “I never ran. I simply was bored with this place!” “What is you plan, fight me? I welcome war, I feed off it.” “No, I learned alot since you last saw me. For one thing, you don’t like silver. A silver casket can hold you for eternity.” And Wolverine points to the side, Gilliwok looks over and sees a silver coffin. “Noo, no way mortal. You cannot defeat me!” And he charges at Wolverine. This time it is Logan who dodges the attack. Gilliwok swiftly launches another attack, but Wolverine blocks it, and kicks the ghoul in the gut, and his foot goes right through it. Gilliwok then retaliates. He takes Wolverine by the foot, and swings him around, bashing him around the remains of the town finally letting him go, and he hits a standing wall, putting a hole through it. Now Wolverine charges Gilliwok, who laughs. “What’s so funny buddy?” “You will die, but know that I will miss you, this is the most fun I have ever had with a mortal,” and the laughing continues. Wolverine punches, and Gilliwok becomes immaterial, the punch goes right through his face. It begins to solidify on him, but Wolverine was ready for the trick. And launches a fury of kicks to it’s head. It let’s go, and both fall. Wolverine quickly grabs the demon, and slams it into the coffin, it let’s out a scream. “Get it away from it.” “Now why would I do that?” Wolverine says taunting it. Gilliwok gets angry, and Wolverine goes flying backwards. He hits the ground, and rolls into a safe, and ready position. The ghoul comes at him once more. This time Wolverine decides on taking a break, though Gilliwok will not have that. It chases him across town. All the while it is merely a delay tactic, Wolverine reaches an arm back into his pack, and liquid slowly spills out. Gilliwok also does not realize that Wolverine has ran in a circle. Wolverine shows signs of exhaustion, and bends down panting. The un-tiresome Gilliwok is fast on the approach, and starts laughing as it nears Wolverine. “I forgot, to tell you, one other thing, I learned about you, Gilliwok.” “Muwah ha ha, and what is that?” “That I know how to kill you!” He flicks a lighter on, “Fire makes you weak,” and he drops it on the ground.” The flame catches onto the gasoline on the floor, and quickly spreads. Soon they are enclosed by the fire. “A nice trick,” says Gilliwok, “But very futile, the fire must touch me. “Oh darn, my mistake,” says Wolverine is a sarcastic disappointment. It again laughs, and comes at Logan. Wolverine ducks, and trips it. They wrestle on the ground, and finally Gilliwok pins Logan by the throat. “Fool, you force me to be corporeal in the heat, but I am still beyond your power!” “Yes,” Wolverine whispers. “I have not your strength, . . .” Just then Wolverine pushes the ghoul off him, and again slams him into the coffin. “But you don’t have my brain, dumbass." Wolverine grabs Gilliwok by the throat and body, drops another lighter in the coffin, which starts a fire there. Then, he drops the thing in with the fire. It let’s out a scream of agony, but he pays it no mind, and walks away. Blue smoke rises, as the creature is burned to nothingness. Wolverine walks out of what was once called the town of Jaynesville, and a huge explosion erupts. Logan looks back, “If I see this place again in 80,000 years, it’ll be to soon.” The picture fades.

Scene 13: Wolverine is in the cemetery (yet again). He carves a tombstone with his claws, and then places it in the ground securely. It reads; "Sheriff Carson, protector of his town." “Thanks,” says Logan. “You were a true friend, but I was too young to understand back then.” He walks away, and the picture fades out.
