Townland names

Townland names, certainly for the earlier records, were seldom written, so they had no spelling. Which accounts for the very variable reported versions of the spellng. Add that to the fact that many townlands have beed deserted and the names lost. That all makes them very difficult to locate. The Garvagh Church visitation records (see main index) can be of great assistance in this. If you wish to discuss these and other points, join the Bann Valley mailing list.
