Summary:
Analyzes
software projects and user needs to design, develop, test and produce
information products for the project. Provides input for establishing
and updating department standards and practices.Essential FunctionsRecommends
information product designs or structures working from project requirements
and specifications.Analyzes audience, user tasks and information
needs, and translates these into information product content plans.
Develops content using specifications, prototypes, early software,
interviews with engineers and other subject matter expertsParticipates
in peer reviews and testing of information products, and initiates
subject-matter expert reviews to ensure technical accuracy and consistency.Produces
final masters and verifies production masters, etc.Provides input
to software features and UI design; provides or reviews software
messages or UI text. Takes ownership of existing information products,
identifies impact of new software releases, identifies fixes or
improvements, and updates or enhances the materials as required.
Expectations
Has a good understanding of information technology and practices
for print-based and online products, such as Help and HTML pages.Strong
written, graphical and oral communications skills. Demonstrates
the ability to analyze information needs for a product or portion
of a product, propose an effective design, and develop usable content.Shows
initiative in developing expertise on new information delivery methods
and technologies.Understands technical information and translates
it into clear, consistent
and accurate user assistance. Adapts to changing requirements and
project needs.Produces output that follows the departmental and
project-specific standards and processes.Works well in a team environment.Qualifications1.
Education:
BA Degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Journalism,
Computer Science or equivalent experience.
2. Experience: 5+ years software technical writing, prefer at least
three years in fast paced software development company. Experience
with curriculum development desirable.
3. Understanding of basic networking concepts.
4. Knowledge of information design and development.
5. Must be highly organized, detail-oriented and able to juggle
multiple on-going projects.
6. Skills with Microsoft Office products, RoboHelp.
