               Episode # 5 - The Ultimate Great Moth

 

                                       In the English Version, this episode was combined with Episode 4 to make one episode.

 

          This episode picks up with the duel between Yugi and Weevil.  Mai has joined the group of duelists watching hoping to see Weevil pull off one of his famous comebacks.  She argues with Mai over who is going to win.  Weevil played a monster in defense mode, tempting Yugi to attack.  But Yugi noticed that he still had a trap card in play and he decided to play Monster Recovery, a magic card that returns all monsters on his side of the field to their owners hands.  He sends out Kuriboh to activate the trap and clears the way for his other monsters.  This takes his life points down to 1050.

 

          Weevil reveals his monster called the Larva Moth and seals it inside a Cocoon of Evolution.  In five turns, the Larva Moth will evolve into the Ultimate Great Moth.  The Cocoon gains the field power bonus and it seems virtually indestructible.  Yugi tries an attack with Gaia the Fierce Knight but his attack is deflected reducing Yugi's life points to 750.  His friends continue to cheer him on and Mai tells them not to waste their breath, nobody has been able to defeat Weevil's cocoon before.  There are four turns until the moth evolves and Yugi decides to play Beaver Warrior in Defense Mode.  Joey tells Yugi that he can still win if he gets all fired up and Yugi gets and idea.

 

          Yugi plays the Curse of Dragon in attack mode and equips it with the Burning Land magic card.  He directs his attack not at the cocoon, but at the forest on the field, burning it down.  Without the forest, the Cocoon looses it's field power bonus making it weak enough to destroy.  Yugi attacks with Gaia and he splits the cocoon open revealing a moth in its fourth stage of evolution.  The moth is stronger than before and destroys the Beaver Warrior.  Yugi realizes the only monster who can attack is Curse of Dragon.  He uses a Polymerization card to fuse Gaia and Curse of Dragon together to make Gaia the Dragon Champion.  When the moth attacked, it covered the other monsters in poisonous spores.  Yugi plays Maikou, the Magical Mist to wash off Gaia the Dragon Champion.  But this is not enough.  Gaia is weaker and as ht moth attacks it again, Yugi's life points drop to 50.

 

          Mai tells Tea that Weevil has already won and there is nothing that Yugi can do.  However, Tea notices that Yugi is smiling and knows that it is not over yet.  Yugi announces that his next monster will be Summoned Skull in Attack Mode, although it is weaker.  Yugi explains that since the moth is still wet because of the mist, Summoned Skulls Lightning Attack will be more powerful.  Weevil watches as Summoned Skull is able to defeat the moth and his life points drop to 0.  Mai is impressed that Yugi was able to pull off a victory.  Yugi tells Weevil that cheaters never win and that he doesn't deserve his Regional Champion title.  Yugi takes his star chips and Joey claims Weevil's dueling glove for his own.  Both of them need many more star chips before they can enter Pegasus's Castle and duel for their loved ones.

Episode Rating (1-10): 8.5  This episode also told us much more about Duel monsters.  The dueling was excellent and showed great twists and unexpected moves.  This episode also moved the plot along and removed Weevil from the show.  (Just for a while.)  Who would have though he would be gone already?
