        EPISODE GUIDE

          

               Episode # 12 - Trial by Red-Eyes

          The battle between Joey and Rex Raptor continues.  Joey has a team of Swap Battleguard and Lava Battleguard on the field beating every monster that Rex Raptor sends out.  Joey also has his Time Wizard out and ready.  Then, out of anger Rex sends out his most powerful card, the Red Eyes Black Dragon.  Red Eyes is only a little bit weaker than the Blue Eyes and just as rare.  He destroys Joey's Battleguards and he can't think of any cards he has that could beat a monster that powerful.  Yugi knows what Joey could do but he is not allowed to help under Mai's rules.  Joey starts to freak out, but with the support of his friends, he continues on.  Mai tells Rex that he could do better and he gets upset.  He decides to place a bet.  If Rex wins, he gets the Time Wizard, but if Joey wins, he gets the Red Eyes Black Dragon.  Rex is hoping to wave the Time Wizard in Mai's face.  It is the very card Joey won with in his duel against her.  Mai gets upset that Rex is breaking their deal and Joey accepts the bet.  He sends out the Time Wizard and attacks with the Time Roulette.

          The tension builds among the friends as the spinner comes to a stop.  If it lands on a Time Castle, 1000 years will pass on the field, but if it lands on a skull, the Time Wizard will self-destruct.  The roulette barley lands on the time warp and a millennium passes on the field.  The Red Eyes Black Dragon fossilizes and turns to dust.  Joey had won on his own!  Rex is forced to give Joey his star chips and his Red Eyes.  Joey and Tristan start to horse play around and Tea says that that is their way of showing they care about each other.  It grows dark and the first full day of the Duelist Kingdom Tournament comes to an end.  Yugi and his friends walk in the dark through a forest on the island.  They are all hungry and they set up cam with a campfire.  Mai shows up and says she will give them food if Joey begs for it and did some work for her.  She loves to make fun of Joey and push him around.  Yugi, Tristan, and Joey go off in search of water and firewood.  Tea stays with Mai who tempts her to turn away from her friends.  Tea refuses and says they are the most important thing in the world.  Mai doesn't understand.

           The five of them eat dinner and Mai announces that tomorrow she will get her remaining star chips.  She plans on entering Pegasus's Castle before the others.  Mai leaves for the moment to go off by herself, saying she'll be back.  The other four notice a rustle in the bushes and they go to investigate.  They find Bakura, Yugi's classmate from Domino High School.  Tea tells them that she had seen him around the island and on the boat.  Bakura has them talk about their favorite cards.  Tea's favorite is the Magician of Faith, Joey's is the Flame Swordsman, Tristan's is the Cyber Commander, and of course Yugi's favorite card is the Dark Magician.  Then Bakura tells them that his favorite card is the Change of Herat.  Yugi has never heard of it and wonders how it is used.  Bakura offers to show them in a duel and Yugi's friends put their favorite cards in his deck so they can all feel like they are playing.  The duel isn't for star chips, just for fun because Bakura isn't in the tournament.  Suddenly, Bakura identifies himself as a possessor of a Millennium item, the Millennium Ring.  Bakura takes them all to the shadow realm just like Pegasus took Yugi in the second episode.  Their souls are removed and flow into Yugi's deck.  Bakura reaches over to steal the Millennium Puzzle but as he does, Yami Yugi takes over Yugi's body and demands that Bakura duels him.

Episode Rating (1-10): 9.  This was a great episode.  It had wonderful dueling in the beginning and great plot development at the end.  Bakura is thrown into the plot trying to get the Millennium Puzzle from Yugi, just like Pegasus.  Bakura's shadowy intentions are something to watch.
