               Episode # 17 - Arena of Lost Souls (Part 1)

          Joey dreams he is being chased by the Blue Eyes White Dragon and Kaiba taunts him calling him a bad dog.  A drop of dew wakes him up and he tells himself that he isn't the dog Kaiba told him he was.  He wakes everyone up and tells them they need a good start on this new day of competition.  Tea brings Yugi a note from Mai telling him she will repay him for the help and that she had to leave on her own.  Joey didn't believe her but Yugi thinks she might change.  A boatload of duelist were shipped home yesterday and the duelists left are strong.

          As they talk three guys spy on them from a ledge.  They make a report to their boss, Bandit Keith.  Bandit Keith decides they will go for Joey first.  He looks to the castle ahead and swears to repay Pegasus for his humiliating defeat.  Joey leaves them temporarily to go to the bathroom.  Two of Bandit Keith's goons are watching and chuckle to themselves.  Bandit Keith tells the other goon, Bones, that he set up the perfect duel station for zombie monsters deep inside a cave.  He takes a look at his deck and gives him a few good  cards and some pointers.  Meanwhile Joey is washing up in a stream when the other two goon come up and knock him out.  He wakes up in a cave and is told to get ready for a duel.  Yugi and the others get worried and split up to look for him.  Joey and Bones call to each other and Bones is sure with his field bonus, that he will win.  Joey makes fun of him and gets him mad.  Bones declares he is going to bet 4 star chips, which is all Joey has left.  The duel starts and Bones is coached by Keith.  He tells him to play a card that he stuck in the deck and Bones gets worried because he wouldn't get the field bonus.  Three time Joey's Axe Raider and Flame Swordsman are able to destroy the non-ghost monsters that Keith has Bones put out.  Bones complains but Keith tells him that it isn't nearly over yet.  He draws Call of the Haunted which brings all his monsters back as zombies.

          Outside, Tea finds Joey's wallet and they know he wouldn't throw it away.  Tea spots the cave and they go into inspect it.  They see two coffins and fake skeletons come out.  Meanwhile all of Bones's monsters have crawled out of the graveyard and each receives the field power bonus.  One destroyed Joey's Axe Raider and the odds are against him.

Episode Rating (1-10) 5.8  The dueling hasn't built up yet and there was not plot other than getting star chips.  It was cool how Joey was forced in the duel and how he might leave the island next but other than that this episode was weak.
