               Episode # 25 -Shining Friendship

     Yugi is in shock after loosing his duel against Kaiba.  Not only does he not have enough star chips to enter Pegasus's Castle, he doesn't trust his other self.  He worries that if he ever duels again, he might loose control.  His friends offer him support but Yugi is too scared to listen.  He is too stunned to respond.  Joey offers Yugi his star chips saying that Yugi is more deserving of them but he gets no response.  Just then, Mai shows up with her star chips, ready to enter Pegasus's Castle.  Unaware of his duel with Kaiba, she teases Yugi and asks why he hasn't entered the castle yet.  Yugi's friends tell her about his duel and Kaiba forced Yugi to loose.  Mai tries her best to get a response from Yugi, saying that you can't cry after you loose.  You have to stand up and try again.  But she doesn't realize that Yugi isn't upset over the outcome of the duel rather than scared that if he ever duels again he might loose control of his body to the spirit.

     Mai offers him the star chips that Yugi had won back for her during Panik's duel but he refuses.  He has his heart set on never dueling, not even against Pegasus for Grandpa's soul.  Mai even challenges him to a duel but nothing will snap Yugi out of his sorrow.  Tea decides to accept the challenge for Yugi.  She wants to win the star chips back so Yugi can enter the castle.

     Tea is a weak duelist and Mai starts to win from the first turn.  Her Harpies Lady easily defeats Tea's Petite Angel.  On her next turn, Tea plays Fairy's Gift in attack mode along with the trap card Waboku.  Tea attacks Mai, forgetting that Mai had powered up her Harpies Lady with the Rose Whip.  Her monster is destroyed and already her life points fall to 1100. Mai plays a Magic Card, Harpies Feather Duster face down, saving it for later.  Mai tells Tea that she can not win because she is to weak and scared.  Tea draws her next card, Shining Friendship, and is reminded of her friends who are always there to support each other.  She hope that the card will be as strong as her friendship.  She plays it in Attack Mode and Mai attacks.  Tea activates Waboku and the Harpies Lady's attack points fall to 0.

     Mai mocks Tea again saying she is too scared.  Tea admits she is scared but no matter how scared she is, she will never give up because she has her friends supporting her.  Her friends are always there to help her out.  He speech gets through to Yugi and he starts become aware of his surroundings.  Tea tells Mai that she will continue to duel for Yugi's sake even though she is scared.  Tea plays Magician of Faith in defense mode and equips Shining Friendship with the Silver Bow and Arrow.  Mai boosters her Harpies Lady with Cyber Shield and uses a De-Spell to remove the Silver Bow.  She attacks the Magician of Faith and Tea is allowed to get one magic card from her graveyard.  She gets the Silver Bow and Arrow back and also equips the Shining Friendship with Elf's Light.  Mai's monster is still more powerful and she attacks.  Tea plays her own De-Spell card to remove Cyber Shield.  Mai's life points fall to 1600 as her Harpies Lady disappears.  Mai surrenders claiming that Tea has destroyed her only strong monster.  Yugi sees that Mai left her Harpies Feather Duster un-played on the field.  If she had activated it, she would have won.  Yugi tries to confront Mai about why she didn't win but she changes the subject.  They all race to Pegasus's Castle but they will have to wait for Kaiba to duel his match first.

Episode Rating (1-10) 9.5  This is as good as you get for Character Development.  Mai had a complete change of character letting Tea win for Yugi.  She wants Yugi to be happy and duel.  The dueling isn't terrible but we do learn more about Mai's strategies.  She will use some of them in her upcoming duel in the Semi-Finals.  She has one more surprise for all of them that really shows her true chacter.
