1941 Ford 1-Ton Express Delivery
This is a 1941 1-ton Ford pickup, the big brother to the little 1/2 ton that gets all the attention. These guys need lovin' too! The trucks has a differnt chassis from the 1/2 tons, closer to the latter trucks (1942 and on) then the 1/2 tons being a modified car chassis. The gas tank is underneath the seat leaving the cab basicly the same as the 1/2 ton except for the stamping underneath the seat that matches the bottom of the gas tank. The bed is wider and longer when equiped so and sported a wooden bed whereas the 1/2 tons had a metal covering for thiers.
This truck will be more of a 'resto-rod' meaning that it will look close to stock but will have a little bit of hot rod influences woven in. I recently decided to put the thing on a 1951 F-1 frame becase they are just so simular in dimentions, and other various reasons that will reveal themselves later.
The truck's bed has been shortened 21" from the part right in front of the curve on the bedside on the front and back. This was to retain the cool vintage side pattern and keep the fender in the middle of the bed. This was done in shop class, the only constuctive thing that went on in that place the entire year. O' ya, I also filled in the stake pocket holes to give it a little smoother look.
History
I think I purchased this truck around May of 1999, but I don't remember. I had been searching for an old truck truck, I wanted something really old, not necesarily a truck. Well, I noticed an old truck on the way home from church everyday and the when my dad mentioned the truck, we took a look a look. The truck is a 1941 Ford one-ton pickup bought new by a family and used on the farm in the Texas panhandle. The trucks engine was completely rebuilt durring the '50s (I beleive '54) and has plates for the year 1961. After 1961 the truck was used around the farm for a few years. At one point in time the truck was given to the postman whose route went to this farm. The postman sold the truck to a guy who races modified or something, then I purchased the truck from him.
