Outlaw Rampage
Recent addition to the collection...
The year was 1991, RC's buggy era was getting into full swing and I was deciding which Nintendo game to get next.
About a year ago, while looking through an older issue of R/C Car Action, I notice a Kyosho kit being advertised by a mail order company. It seemed I missed the production time of this model, not even knowing it existed. What was this "Outlaw Rampage" sporting a cool '91 F150 body advertised as a "gas R/C"? I did some research on the Internet and in old catalogs and collected tidbits of info on this model. On to eBay I go, seeing if I can find some under the hood pics. I liked what I saw. After alot of bargain hunting and waiting, I found a *NEW* Outlaw Rampage on eBay. YES!
KIT DESCRIPTION:
Here we have a flat aluminum chassis, stiffened by 2 steel braces that connect front to back. The shock towers are also aluminum and the gearbox comes preassembled. Very Nice! Break-in went without a hitch, and the carb holds its adjustments well. The Kyosho GS-11 engine is mounted clutch forward and drives the spur gear, rotating a steel shaft which then turns a small kelvar belt that drives a gear that drives the tranny. The picture better explains it. The carb is a simple one needle setup and offers sufficiant flow. The muffler is the one thing that is truly unique about this kit. When the throttle is advanced, a linkage that connects the throttle lever to the muffler is pushed. This in turn moves a butterfly-type valve in the muffler, increasing the air flow. The partially blocked exhaust during idle actually smooths out the RPM and also assists hot restarts. I think this feature should be on more R/C's but in a more sophisticated form(besides a low speed needle). The suspension is solid, but somewhat bouncy. Spring tension is adjustable with a multi-setting ring. This thing also has some wicked oversteer.
The Outlaw Rampage has it where it counts and is everything a sport truck should be. Truly a piece of mechanical art.

GP Ultima ST Type R
"The Good One"
I had been wanting to get into the club racing arena for some time and was looking for a kit to start with. I wanted a brand I was familiar with and something that was cost effective. This was only amature class racing so I didn't see it necessary to spend $300 on a truck with blue anodized-everything and carbon this-and-that. Yet I wanted something competitive with the essential hardware to race. The Ultima Type R was the perfect choice coming in at around $160 for the kit.
