Outlaw Star is an action adventure series with a touch of romance. There are so many complexities and elements, such as witchcraft, philosophy, the concept of a greater god that can be manipulated, but overall, it is based on the life of Gene Starwind and his friends.
Outlaw Star takes place in the year of 0158 of the "Towards Star Calendar Year." Meaning, that we are past 9999 of our normal calendar year. In the future, human kind has finally reached the stars and light speed has been established. They are so far advanced, that humans have even settled on other planets besides the Original ones we know today, and have even settled on others outside of the Milky Way. Of course, with exploration comes new discoveries and mankind has found a way to coexist peacefully with other species of different races. Aliens and crossbreeds between humans and aliens alike, exist in this world. Inter-Stellar trade has also been accomplished; however, despite all these steps forward, the galaxies still face several difficulties. In this new environment, there are three powers that rule the vastness of space. The Space Forces are the individuals who maintain the peace throughout the galaxy. The unlawful pirates are the magicians and warlords who have abused their power and became greedy for more. And finally, stuck between these two extremes are the Outlaws, the true nomads of the universe. Outlaws answer to no-one and criss-cross the universe without anything or anyone to hold them back. With that said, now, we're back to where we started: Gene Starwind! He's the young hero of our anime series with no principles or morals. I know! This is the hero?! Yep. Gene is only 20 years old and as all males of this specimen during their post-pubescent years, he's a reckless womanizer. He usually jumps into situations that he should have probably given more thought into. Luckily for him, Gene has his best friend to back him up who happens to be an 11 year old boy genius. It is not 100% clear on how these two met, but what is for sure is that Jim, his best friend and partner, has been with Gene for the past five years. Meaning, they are very close, and they sure as hell act as brothers. There are so many adorable scenes in this series with these two fighting, but when they are together, you can see just how special their relationship is. When the first episode starts, audiences are introduced to these two characters and gradually throughout the series, we become more aware of their past and what has happened to Gene. Back to the episode, the two of them meet Hot Ice Hilda, who, after hiring them for a job, Gene and Jim find themselves in more trouble than they could handle. Hilda eventually reveals to them that she's got in her possession the ultimate treasure in the universe. A possession that was rightfully the Pirates that she stole from them, and also, something the Space Forces are desperately trying to obtain. She calls this treasure, the key to the Galactic Leyline. That key turns out to be none other than the bio-android girl, Melfina. While Melfina is the key, they also need a transport system to get to that location of the Galaxy; thus, Hilda was strong and resilient enough to capture both Melfina and the most advanced ship in the Galaxy, known as the XGP-15A2, later known as the Outlaw Star. Unfortunately, Hot Ice Hilda dies within the first few episodes, leaving Gene, Jim, Melfina and the Outlaw Star with no clues in finding the Galactic Leyline and this is where the series takes us. Along the way, Gene has to deal with his many insecurities, financial disabilities, fighting the pirates who are seeking revenge, alluding the Space Forces so they don't discover who Melfina and what the XGP truly is. And that's just the start, aside from falling for Melfina; Gene comes across a deadly assassin who goes by the name of Twilight Suzuka, who eventually joins their crew. He also encounters the beast-girl from the Ctarl Ctarl race, known as Aisha Clan Clan. Gene will also have to face many obstacles, aside from the Space Forces and Pirates, such as Bounty Hungers, the McDougal Brothers (two brothers known for their cunning and shrewd business, where it is rumored that simply by the pay alone, one can expect the job to be done in the hands of the McDougals). He will also have to fight to keep Melfina protected, especially from the younger brother of this duo, who harbors very intense feelings for the maiden. And as the series keeps going, audiences watch as this entire crew tries to find out the secrets and location of the Galactic Leyline, all the while trying to stay alive. For the Galactic Leyline is rumored to be a treasure planet with powers far beyond comprehension. However, it is soon revealed that the Galactic Leyline is a machine version of God; in calling it a "machine" version of God, they mean that it was created by a regular-everyday-mortal-being, and that it is meant to be controlled and harnessed. Imagine it as a power that can control everything, alter fate, create and destroy life. This is the story of Outlaw Star.
