~The Chicken Island~

This is the Red Jungle Fowl, they are the Adam of all present day chickens!

This is the Sebright, they only come in bantams. A bantam is the smaller counter part of the standard chicken.

This is the Black Australorp.

Black Chickens look green in the sun light.

A silver-Laced Wyandotte!

Welcome to the chicken house!

I love chickens and this is just my little web site on chickens! If you have questions or comments about my site please e-mail me here! katie@flightline.com

I am going to list some of the traits and stuff of a few breeds of chickens!

Rhode Island Red;

Very good egg layers. They can lay inbetween 200 and 300 eggs per year. The females are calm yet the roosters can be a bit "Leggy." Also known is the Rhode Island White. They have a single comb and yellow legs. Some of them were created in Rhode Island, that is where they got their name from!

Cochins

The females are very broody (They like to sit on eggs.) They come in these colors; Partridge, white, black, buff, splash hen, cuku or kooko. Cochins come in bantam size (Smaller than the standard) and standard. They have feathers on their legs and feet. Not a very good egg layer. The bantams are not really sutible for eating since they are so small! Single comb.

Black Australorps

These beautiful black birds are a cross between Orpingtons and an Australian chicken. Very good egg layers. They are all black with a green sheen. Calm nature. Single comb. They have grey legs and black or brown eyes.

Wyandotte

The Wyandotte is named after an indian tribe in New York. Wyandottes are usualy black with white spots. They are not great egg layers but are quite friendly! Wyandottes are not wery broody and the males are nice. There are a few variaties of Wyandottes.

Silkie

The silkie is a very strange breed, if you have been to my site you will know why. The silkie is from China, Marco polo wrote of seeing chickens with fur rather than feathers. Silkies or Silkiens have feathers that look and feel like fur because the feathers are missing the barbs that hold them together. All silkies have a big hole in their skull, they have five toes. Instead of a red comb and wattles, silkies have blue! Silkies are very good pets.

White Leghorn

The White Leghorn is probably the best egg layer of all chickens. Leghorns come in almost every different color. The more known color is of course white. Leghorns are used as facility birds for meat and eggs. They are a Mediteranian bird which means they come from the Mediteranian area. They are rather flighty but are nice chickens. White legs and a large single comb.

Aracauna

The Aracauna does not have a tail! It lays green and blue eggs!
