Early History Having idolized her grandmother, during her early years, Colleen grew up wanting to become just like her and held the same values of wanting to be part of a larger community and to help others. She enlisted in the SLDF without her parents' knowledge and found the sense of community and belonging she had heard so much about as a child. Sadly, she never got the chance to share these feelings with her grandmother, as Colonel Schmitt was killed in action, fighting the forces of Stefan Amaris - the traitor who had arranged the murder of the young Richard Cameron and his entire family in a bid to claim the title of First Lord of the Star League. This conflict completely destroyed the Royal Black Watch Regiment. The Amaris Civil War, as it became known, led to the dissolution of the Star League. Although Amaris was eventually killed, no legal successor to the throne could be found and the rulers of the member states began fighting among themselves in a bid to become the new First Lord. The former commander of the SLDF, Alexander Kerensky, called upon the troops who had served under him, to follow him to a new home, far from the Inner Sphere, to establish a new colony.
