Chapter 13

Anakin was sitting at his desk, going over a few bills, that was going to be voted on in the upcoming weeks.

“ Excuse me, Anakin, but there is a Jedi Knight, here to see you." the protocol droid said.

“ Ok. Please, tell the Jedi that I will be there, in a moment.” Anakin looked up from the screen.

The droid turned around, left the room and headed back into the living area of the apartment. Anakin moved back from the desk and raised his right arm, before looking at the new mechanical arm. He watched his fingers clenching and unclenching, then clenching again, as he tried to relax the muscle that was spasming on him. Getting up, he left the office and headed into the living area.

“ Um . . . welcome Obi-Wan.” Anakin noticed the man standing at the windows and looking across the city.

“ Thank you, Anakin. Sorry, I did not call ahead to let you know that I was coming here.” Obi-Wan turned away from the windows and faced Anakin.

“ Um . . . that is ok. So, what can I do for you and the Jedi?” Anakin came over to Obi-Wan and shook his hand.

“ I can tell from the look on your face, am not the person you wanted to see. You were hoping to see Padme.” Obi-Wan shook the man’s hand, before they went over to the couch and chair and sat down.

“ Well, I have been calling over to the Temple to see how you both are doing. They told me that you were fine, but they would not tell me anything on her condition.” Anakin said, as the service droid came into the room, with a tray with two drinks on it.

“ Yes, I know. It was me, who told them not to tell you anything and I am sorry for that. I do know that the two of you have feelings for each other, and we both know that the Jedi are not allowed to have any kind of attachments. You do understand that Anakin? In other words, she cannot fall in love with you, and the same goes for you too, Anakin.” Obi-Wan looked over at the young man and then, he realized that it was too late.

“ I understand that you Jedi are against that feeling of love. Am sorry, if we love each other,that is a feeling that you cannot just push away, all because your Order forbids it. I’m so sorry for all you guys, because you cannot feel true happiness. I get this feeling, that you are here to tell me to stay out of Padme’s life.” Anakin saw a sad look come across Obi-Wan’s face.

“ There is a reason why we have that one rule in the Code, about love. You are wrong about me, I do understand what you two are feeling for each other. I too have been there. I too fell in love, and in the end, I felt the heart break, because she was the first person that I fell in love with. She too was a Jedi, and because of our duty to the Order, we had to call off our relationship. We still held our feelings for each other. It really hurt me, when she died in a battle, in Padme’s arms. The sad thing was, I was not there with her. It still haunts me to this very day.” Obi-Wan had sadness in his voice, as he told his story about his own heart break, and his first true love.

“ Oh . . . man . . . Am sorry to hear about that. So, what do you want me to do, Obi-Wan . . . I just cannot walk away from her.” Anakin got up and headed over to the windows, looked out and just stared at the Temple, which loomed over the city.

“ I understand. You are going to have to tell her that you cannot see her any more. I know it will hurt the both of you, but in time, your hearts will heal.” Obi-Wan took the last sip of his drink.

“ I understand. Can you give me a couple of days, to come up with a way to tell her that it is over between us?” Anakin turned around and faced Obi-Wan.

“ That will be fine. Just let me know.” Obi-Wan got up from the couch.

“ Ok, I will let you know.” Anakin walked with Obi-Wan to the door.

They said goodbye and Obi-Wan left and headed back to the Temple, so he could let Master Yoda know that he told Anakin to break off his relationship with Padme. Anakin walked over to the double doors and opened them up, before walking out onto the balcony. Going over to the railing, he looks over to the Jedi Temple, and he felt a tear roll down his face.

“ I’m sorry, Padme and I will love you forever.” Anakin whispered, as he watched the sun sink lower behind the Temple.

Going back inside the apartment, Anakin headed back into his office and went back to work, until it was time for him to go to bed. The next morning, Anakin called the Jedi Temple and asked to talk to both Obi-Wan and Master Yoda.

“ Thank you for coming here on a very short notice, but I wanted you both to know that am ready to call off my relationship with Padme.” Anakin told the two Jedi came into his home office.

“ The decision you have come up with is?” Master Yoda sat down in the chair across from Anakin.

“ Yes, Master, I have. I was thinking about going back to Naboo to try to get more rest. I thought that Padme could come with me and it would be here, that I will tell her that we cannot see each other anymore. If we do have to see or be with each other ,it will be in a professional way.” Anakin told the two Jedi Masters.

“ That would be fine with us. When are you heading back to Naboo?” Obi-Wan asked.

“ I have a vote on a bill tomorrow in the Senate, so I could be leaving in two days.” Anakin said, as there was a chiming sound coming from the doorbell.

“ We will have Padme to meet you, at the hanger bay in the Temple. How long will you be gone?” Obi-Wan asked again.

“ Ok. I was going to be gone for only week. ?the Senate will be taking a week break.” Anakin said, as the protocol droid came into the doorway of the office.

“ Excuse me, sir, but Senator Organa is here to see you.” the droid said.

“ Oh, ok. Thank you, C4. Please, let him know that I will be with him, in a couple of minutes, and offer him something to drink.” Anakin realized it was time for his meeting with the Senator from Alderaan.

The droid turn away and heads back into the living area, to let the Senator know that his Master with be with him, in a couple of minutes.

“ Leave you, we will. Your meeting with the Senator Organa, you can have.” Master Yoda got out of the chair.

“ Ok, and I will see you in a couple of days, Master Kenobi at the Temple.” Anakin got up and walked with the Jedi to the door.

Obi-Wan nodded and the two Jedi greeted the other Senator, as they left and headed back to the Temple. Then, Anakin motioned for the other Senator to follow him into his office, where they had their meeting.

Two days later, Anakin showed just before dawn, to the Jedi Temple.

“ Master Kenobi, Padme, good morning.” Anakin greeted the Jedi Master and his Padawan.

“ Good morning, Senator. Well, I believe it is time for the both of you to leave and head back to Naboo.” Obi-Wan came up to Anakin and shook his hand.

“ Yes, it will be great to get back there and get some more rest, and also try to heal, a little more. Sorry, to have to get up so early, Padme.” Anakin chuckled, as he watched Padme yawn again for the fourth time.

“ Yeah, sure, you are. Well, let’s get going.” Padme gave him a sneer, before heading up the ramp of the ship.

“ Let me guess, she is PMSing. I know all about that because of my sister, this should be a fun flight.” Anakin shook his head, as he headed up the ramp.

“ Yes, it will be. Better you be with her than me.” Obi-Wan chuckled to himself, before turning away from the ship and heading for the turbo-lift, as the ship began to lift off the ground. Anakin came into the cockpit, as the ship began to lift off the ground.

“ I don’t see why we could not have waited, until after breakfast to leave. No, we had to leave way before dawn.” Padme mumbled to mostly to herself.

“ Well, sorry, to have ruined your morning, but the earlier we left, the sooner we will on Naboo.” Anakin sat down in the co-pilot chair, as they flew out of the planet’s atmosphere.

“ Still it is way too early. When we get into hyperspace, am getting something to eat, and then going back to bed for a little bit.” Padme looked at Anakin and then, put the coordinates for Naboo into the Navi-computer.

“ Ok and I will do the same thing.” Anakin watched Padme pull the lever back and the stars began to blur, as they enter hyperspace.

Padme got up, left the cockpit and went into the galley, so she could get her something to eat, before heading off to bed. Anakin just sat there in the cockpit, and began to think of a way for him and Padme to stay together, and to see each other, without anyone knowing about it. Two hours later, they finally landed on Naboo. It took them another hour and half to get to the house by the lake.

“ Padme, let us get married.” Anakin walked into Padme’s bedroom.

“ Um . . . are you sure? You know if we do this, we'll have to keep it a secret from everyone. Are you sure you want to live that way?” Padme looked at him, with a slight smile on her face.

“ Yes, am sure. You are my soul, Padme and I want to spend my life with you. We will find away.” Anakin came up to her and pulled her into his arms.

“ Yes, I will marry you. When do you want to get married?” Padme put her arms around Anakin’s neck.

“ Tonight. I want to get married tonight at sunset.” Anakin leaned his head down and began kissing her.

Four hours later, as the sun began setting Anakin and Padme stood hand and hand, as the Holy man recited texts of marriage. With the bow of his head, the Holy man pronounced them husband and wife.Then, the couple leaned forward and shared their first kiss, as husband and wife.
