Chapter 23

Far off in the distance, there were mumble of voices. At first, they started out as whispers, but are now turning into loud vibrations, that is banging up against my aching brain.

“ Come on, my baby. Please wake up, because I know that you are in there somewhere.” I thought I heard my mother’s voice, coming through the heavy fog that was spinning around in my head.

“ Come on, sweetie. We know that you are there. Your mother and I would love to take you on a small vacation, to wherever you want to go.” the sound was like my father’s voice, and like the female’s voice, it was also coming through the heavy fog that was still spinning around in my head.

“ It is time!” was another voice quietly whispered through the now fading fog.

The first thing that I moved was my eyes, as I was trying to remove the heaviness of them. I slowly cracked them open, but all I could see was a semi-bright light, and everything seemed blurry. Then, I reached out slightly and felt for the hand that was next to my hand. Taking a hold of the hand, I gave it a gentle squeeze, which caused the person to pull their hand back very quickly out of mine.

“ Oh my! Ness, can you hear me, sweetie!” the female voice whispered close to my ear.

The only thing I could do at the moment, was squeeze the woman’s hand, to let her know that I could hear her talking to me. Then, I opened my eyes again, but slightly winced when the light shined in them. I quickly closed them, before I slowly opened them again, but this time, there was no pain, but only blurriness.

“ Good morning. How are things going?” the doctor came into the room, as it was her morning rounds.

“ She is awake.” the female sat up, looked at the doctor and gave her a very huge smile.

“ Well, that is wonderful news. If things go great in an hour, we will take off the machine and take out the breathing tube.” the doctor came over to the bed and saw that I was awake.I felt her squeeze my toes on my left foot.

In return, I moved my left foot, to let her know that I heard her and she gave me a smile, as she nodded her head.

“ That sounds like great new. Then, we will see you in an hour. Thank you, doctor.” the male reached out and shook the doctor’s hand.

“ Ok. See you guys then. Have a great morning.” the doctor smiled at the couple and then to me, before she walked out of the room.

The only thing I could do for now, was to close my eyes and drift off back to sleep.

Four hours later, I was slightly sitting up in the bed, sipping on some kind of broth that was brought to me for lunch.

“ It is so great to have you back with us. What were you doing in the basement, in the first place?” my mother asked me, as she handed me the small cup of juice. “ Well, the lights went out and I went downstairs to see, if it was a fuse. When I opened the fuse box, there was a huge flash of light and that is all remember.” I told her, as I reached out and took the cup of juice and took a sip of juice.

“ That must have happened, when we had that really bad storm that hit us five days ago.” my father sat in the chair and looked up from his tablet.

“ Really? So, how long have I been here?” I looked at my parents, wondering how long I have been right here in the hospital. “ Well, you have been here for five days now.” Mom bit into her sandwich.

“ I see. Um, can you tell me who found me, and what happened, do you know?” I asked, as there was a tap on the door and a nurse came in to take my vitals.

“ Well, it was Allison who found you. When she came home from work, she saw that the door to the basement was wide open. She went down and found you laying amoungst the boxes. When she could not feel a pulse, she called for the ambulance. It was the EMT's that brought you back to life.” my mother took a sip of her tea, before taking another bite of her sandwich.

“ Um . . . are you telling me that I was dead?” I watch the nurse take my blood pressure, then turn away from my parents, just to see what the readings were.

“ Yes, you did die.” my father reached over to the tray and grabbed the other half of his sandwich.

I nodded to the nurse, as she finished up with the vitals. Then, she left the room and closed the door behind her. I sat there for moment, thinking about all that has happened. Wondering, if I dreamed about all the stuff that I had did. I also knew, that in my dream, I was in a coma for more almost a month, not for the five days that my parents said I was in a coma for. There was a small tap on the door and my father bid, whoever was at the door to come into the room.

“ Good afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Hill. We came to see how your daughter is doing.” a man asked, as he came into the room, as a younger man followed closely behind him.

“ Good afternoon. Please come in and meet Vanessa. Sweetie, I want you to meet our new neighbors, Obi-Wan and . . . .” my father started to sa,y as he nodded to the two men.

“ Anakin?” was all I could say, when I saw the younger man, coming into the room behind the older man.

“ Um . . . hello. It is very nice to meet you, Miss Vanessa.” was all Anakin said, as he gave me a smile.

I gave Anakin a smile back. Now, my only thought was, was everything that I thought happened to me, really true or was it all a dream?
