Mt. Zion UM Church
612 Second Street, Annapolis.
The church was founded in the 1860s by Daniel Boston, Nathan Evans, Joseph Jenkins and others on a property that once belonged to James Cheston, Jr. It is one of the oldest African American churches on the Eastport peninsula. In 1867, a primary school was located between Mt. Zion Church and the parsonage. It was a one room school measuring 30'x 20', and built by funds from the Freedman's Bureau. The church was built in 1896 and remodeled in 1925.
