Union Memorial Methodist Church
Route 214, Davidsonville 21035
During the Civil War, the Davidsonville Methodist Church was the only Methodist Church in southern Anne Arundel County to withdraw from the Northern Methodist Convention and become a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. The group supported slavery. As a result of this move, it left the black Methodists that had long attended the Davidsonville Church without a place to worship. This situation caused the founding of Union Memorial Church. The church is the only black church located in Davidsonville. It has survived in the wealthiest tobacco region for over 100 years. Union Memorial was also the site of the only Davidsonville Northern Methodist Convention Church for 36 years.
