He was married and divorced twice -- Katherine Lardner and Kimberlea Cloughley. He has two children, Austin Leonard and Victoria Kafka. |
"Do I play only bad guys? Do I play only violent guys? How can you categorize me? What pictures come to mind?" he asked a New York Times reporter in 1993. The reporter commented about his role as the devious Claw Shaw in Oliver Stone's "JFK," for which he was nominated for a best-supporting-actor Oscar. He also mentioned his funny madman character in "Under Siege." "Villains! OK! Now you got me categorized. You happy?" Jones answered. "I don't play just villians. I like to have parts that are not simply villains. And I find this entire subject...just very uncomfortable and borderline stupid." Although his villians and madmen are often his most memorable, Jones has played a variety of characters. His filmography includes the summer comedy "Men in Black," the big special-effects film "Volcano" and "The Fugitive." Unlike many actors in Hollywood, Jones had an easy road to stardom. He grew up in a small town in Texas, and eventually went to St. Mark's School of Texas, a prestigious prep school for boys in Dallas. After high school graduation he received a scholarship and went to Harvard. He received a B.A. in English literature and graduated with honors in 1969. He quickly moved to New York and decided to pursue a career in acting. After just ten days in New York, he landed his first role on Broadway in "A Patriot for Me." He made his film debut a few months later with "Love Story." Despite having never had any formal acting training, Jones found acting jobs easily. In 1971 he moved to Los Angeles and found great success in television acting -- major motion picture films weren't far behind. His filmography includes such films as "Under Siege," "The Big Town" and the strange film "Small Soldiers." |
