BATMAN FOREVER (1995) by ELLIOT GOLDENTHAL

6. NYGMA VARIATIONS (An Ode To Science)

Like Track 4 on Batman Returns where Elfman builds the track around four notes, Goldenthal does the same. (except this is a culmination of many cues whereas Batman Return's was only one cue.) The wackiness of this track may turn some away. The synth music does seem a bit weird, but it does work well in the movie, keeping good pace with Carey's antics. Goldenthal moves back and forth between sad violin and explosive orchestra with synth. The cue where The Riddler discovers his identity is enjoyable. The track ends with a "fat lady singing" sound. The tongue-in-cheek seriousness of Goldenthal's music adds to the silliness of the Riddler's persona.
