"D"

These are the movies that begin with the letter "D".

DADDY DAY CARE (2003)
Rating: **
"Surprisingly not as bad as you would expect! But don't let that get your hopes up. It's not until Steve Zahn's character gets a bigger part, when the movie's already near or after the middle section, that it actually becomes funny. Even if you don't like it, it'll work as a nice daycare for your toddler if you can't afford a nanny."

DANTE'S PEAK (1997)
Rating: **1/2
"Okay, it's nowhere near as bad as Volcano, but it's still pretty disappointing. Can't there just be some mindless action?"

DAREDEVIL (2003)
Rating: ***
"Wacky and yet at the same time, brutally realistic."

DARKMAN (1990)
Rating: ***1/2
"Phantom of the Opera plus Sam Raimi equals genius."

DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, THE (1951)
Rating: ***1/2
"Though it appears to be regular 1950s sci-fi fare on the outside, The Day the Earth Stood Still is a different beast altogether because of its mature, intelligent scripting and interesting plot that takes a look at the faults of the human race. There are also intentional undertones that add more depth to the film, and makes it a wonderful viewing experience. If ever there was a science fiction classic..."

DAZZLE (1999)
Rating: **
"This cheesy fairy tale tries too hard at times, and too little at others, resulting in a mixed bag that I really would have love to enjoyed, but, well...it just didn't work. Would've made a great storybook, though!"

DEATH BECOMES HER (1992)
Rating: ***
"An hilarious dark comedy that sports some truly amazing special effects."

DEATH TO SMOOCHY (2002)
Rating: **1/2
"A little sloppy, but mostly hilarious."

DEEP BLUE SEA (1999)
Rating: **
"It's not too deep, and it'll leave you feeling blue."

DIE HARD (1988)
Rating: ****
"Action in the purest sense of the word."

DIE HARD 2: DIE HARDER (1990)
Rating: ***
"This is a pretty good flick, but not as slick or cool as the original...and what's up with that lame subtitle, man?"

DIE HARD: WITH A VENGEANCE (1995)
Rating: ***
"My least favorite of the Die Hard series, but it's still great fun."

DINOSAUR (2000)
Rating: *
"One great big load of triceratops droppings."

DIRTY DANCING (1987)
Rating: **1/2
"It'll leave you feeling dirty."

DISAPPEARANCE (2002)
Rating: **
"Made-for-TV movies don't get any weirder than this inconclusional supernatural mystery."

DOCTOR DOLITTLE (1998)
Rating: ***
"Chris Rock gives a moving portrayal of a rat living in the ghetto."

DR. DOLITTLE 2 (2001)
Rating: ***
"Even cuter and wittier than the original remake!"

DONNIE DARKO (2001)
Rating: ****
"Put simply, this is an incredible film. Though the acting and direction are both splendid, the reason why Donnie Darko is a step ahead of most other movies is because it is extremely intelligent. The concepts and philosophies present here are mind-blowing and breathtaking, and though they are all fiction, it will leave one wondering if they're really true or not. The film also manages to combine elements of horror, thriller, science fiction, action/adventure, fantasy, character study, comedy, and teen drama...I told you it was amazing, didn't I? Definitely requires multiple viewings."

DOUBLE JEOPARDY (1999)
Rating: **1/2
"Through double viewings, I was entertained."

DOWN TO EARTH (2001)
Rating: ***
"An absolutely hilarious remake of Heaven Can Wait!"

DRAGNET (1987)
Rating: **1/2
"Dragnet makes fun of the old show, and is actually better. Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks are hilarious together."

DRAGONFLY (2002)
Rating: ***
"Well, at least I was surprised by the ending."

DREAMCATCHER (2003)
Rating: *
"For the first half of this mess, we're treated to a competent and well-meaning adapatation of Stephen King's novel, only to see it devolve into Z-grade science fiction crap, totally wasting King's book and adding moronic bits of its own (including that bullcrap about aliens being able to morph into larger versions of the weasels). Guaranteed to give you bad dreams for weeks, and not because of how scary it is."

DROWNING MONA (2000)
Rating: ***
"Devilishly dark and eerily irresistible."

DUDLEY DO-RIGHT (1999)
Rating: ***
"It's hit-and-miss, but I thought it was very funny."

DUMB & DUMBER (1994)
Rating: ***1/2
"The flat-out funniest movie of all time."

DUNE (1984)
Rating: *
"What...?"
