These are the movies that begin with the letter "L".

LADY AND THE TRAMP (1955)
Rating: ****
"Reminding us why Walt Disney was a genius."

LAKE PLACID (1999)
Rating: **
"It's corny beyond comprehension, but Betty White keeps it afloat."

LAND BEFORE TIME, THE (1988)
Rating: ****
"A wonderful tale of dinosaurs, and the only Don Bluth film worth anything."

LAST ACTION HERO, THE (1993)
Rating: **
"It has a few bright spots, but sadly, not enough."

LAST CASTLE, THE (2001)
Rating: ***
"The blockbuster action-packed climax really steals the show."

LAST MAN STANDING (1996)
Rating: **
"Never before has such a compelling storyline been so heavily laden with boring storylines."

LAST SAMURAI, THE (2003)
Rating: ***
"This rousing samurai epic starts off tediously, but once Tom Cruise joins with the Japanese, the film heightens to a rollicking roar, as does Cruise's acting. Cruise gives far from his best performance, but he is undeniably superb in the fight scenes. Seven Samurai this ain't...in fact, it's the polar opposite of that 1954 classic: The setup is good, but the amazing battle scenes are why you watch."

LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, THE (2003)
Rating: **
"Nothing too extraordinary here."

LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, A (1992)
Rating: ***1/2
"An all-star cast knocks this one out of the park, and defeats a somewhat cliched and corny screenplay to create a highly inspirational and funny dramedy depicting the women's baseball league from the 1940s."

LEFT BEHIND (2000)
Rating: **
"This film seems to be nothing more than a reminder that the books are almost always better than the movies. Boring and cheesy."

LEGALLY BLONDE (2001)
Rating: ***
"Dumb, blonde fun. It's stupid, but you can't deny its heart or its brilliant laughs."

LEGALLY BLONDE 2: RED, WHITE & BLONDE (2003)
Rating: *1/2
"If Elle Woods is the future of our country, and if this movie is the future of our comedy, please stop the world for a moment while I get off."

LIAR LIAR (1997)
Rating: ***
"Knock-out hilarious!"

LIFE AS A HOUSE (2001)
Rating: **1/2
"The title is so misleading. I watched the whole thing, and I still don't know what it's like to be a house."

LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT (2002)
Rating: *1/2
"More like Film or Something Like It. This movie is so badly-written, and with a premise so farfetched, that not even a few good scenes could save it all that much. Angelina Jolie is highly laughable as a platinum blonde news reporter who believes she is going to die in one week."

LIFE WITH MIKEY (1993)
Rating: ***
"Funny and charming, even with the corn."

LILO & STITCH (2002)
Rating: ****
"One of the most delightful and fun animated films of all time."

LION KING, THE (1994)
Rating: ***
"It's good, yes, but quite overrated."

LITTLE NICKY (1999)
Rating: **1/2
"This has got to be the guiltiest guilty pleasure ever conceived. It's not of a very high quality, but I just can't help but like it."

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (1986)
Rating: ****
"The best musical I have ever seen, and with Muppet plants, too!"

LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, THE (1996)
Rating: ***
"Extremely fun and enjoyable, especially with Geena Davis' turn as a super bad chick."

LORD OF THE RINGS, THE: FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING (2001)
Rating: ***1/2
"A great and very engaging fantasy. A near-masterpiece."

LORD OF THE RINGS, THE: THE RETURN OF THE KING (2003)
Rating: ***1/2
"Return of the King, the final chapter in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, is a spectacular conclusion to the epic saga. Though at times it drags, and at times it disappoints (only in a few scenes, however), it's an amazing battle film that contains some of the most incredible moments put to film. The characterizations of the gang are at their best here, but the ending tarries around too long for its own good."

LORD OF THE RINGS, THE: THE TWO TOWERS (2002)
Rating: ****
"Few films are so exceptionally wonderful to be labeled as 'epic.' And if any film deserves to be labeled that, it's definitely The Two Towers, which could also be called The Lord of the Fantasy Genre."

LORENZO'S OIL (1992)
Rating: ***1/2
"A highly exceptional and strongly-acted drama. Recommended!"

LOST BOYS, THE (1987)
Rating: **
"You know, I really did try to just sit back and be entertained with this vampire flick...but it wasn't possible. Much like the title boys, all logic is lost."

LOST IN SPACE (1998)
Rating: ***
"It's actually much, much better than the old show, and quite a load of fun."

LOST IN TRANSLATION (2003)
Rating: ****
"Films like Lost in Translation are a marvelous rarity. It is a movie that while you are watching it, you want to go run out and tell your friends (every single one) about it and drag them back to the theater with you so that they can witness the magic. Sofia Coppola has the manic directorial brilliance of her dad, Francis Ford Coppola, and Bill Murray's performance is nothing short of wonderful. Such an enjoyable, touching, funny, and poignant experience this masterpiece is that I could've watched it a dozen times in a row in the same seat without moving."

LOST WORLD, THE: JURASSIC PARK (1997)
Rating: **1/2
"The book had a lesson steeped in scientific research and development; the movie feels like a 'save the dinosaurs' crusade."
