"P"

These are the movies that begin with the letter "P".

PANIC (2000)
Rating: ***1/2
"A weird yet highly effective character study of a hitman fleshed out to near perfection by William H. Macy, Donald Sutherland, and John Ritter. Quite chilling in the end."

PANIC ROOM (2002)
Rating: ***1/2
"Pure, unadulterated suspense for 112 minutes. You'll be more than panicking...I sure was. The cast is unanimously delightful in both good and evil roles. Plus, it's the first good film from director David Fincher that I've seen!"

PASSION OF THE CHRIST, THE (2004)
Rating: ****
"Truly the most powerful and moving filmic experience I have ever been witness to, and unquestionably one of the greatest films ever created. A modern movie unlike any other; a testament to Christ that forgoes all commercial aspects to be an electrifying religious experience, which it is. Stunning on every level imaginable, though quite violent and not for anyone who can't endure two hours of torture."

PATCH ADAMS (1998)
Rating: ***
"Unique and funny. A truly winning drama."

PAY IT FORWARD (2000)
Rating: **
"Several storylines run together, and they aren't very fascinating or well-done, for that matter."

PCU (1994)
Rating: **
"For how short this college comedy is, the laughs per minute are quite low. I guess it flunked, huh?"

PEARL HARBOR (2001)
Rating: **1/2
"It's Titanic on land, and for some reason, it's insanely better."

PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED (1986)
Rating: ***1/2
"Yeah, Peggy Sue did get married...but how did she time travel?"

PERFECT HUSBAND, THE: THE LACI PETERSON STORY (2004)
Rating: **
"This rush-job TV movie about the Laci Peterson case feels, well, like a rush-job TV movie. Amateurish acting ruins what could've been some fine dramatic scenes, and at times, I couldn't tell whether it was Scott Peterson that made some of the scenes laughable, or the fact that Dean Cain portrayed him. There is some very good direction from Roger Young, but other than that, well..."

PERFECT STORM, THE (2000)
Rating: *1/2
"Amazing special effects, and sucky everything else."

PERMANENT MIDNIGHT (1998)
Rating: **1/2
"Permanent Mediocrity."

PET SEMATARY (1989)
Rating: *
"Very, very funny, and hardly scary at all."

PHANTOM, THE (1996)
Rating: **
"This film is total cheesy, B-movie fun, which it's supposed to be, but I think that it overwhelmed itself and forgot to add anything really great. It was also sort of, uh, disturbing to see Billy Zane in a skin-tight purple costume...yikes."

PHONE BOOTH (2002)
Rating: ***
"Joel Schumacher, the man who ruined the Batman franchise, somehow manages to pull off one heck of a tense thriller here."

PIANO, THE (1993)
Rating: ***1/2
"Holly Hunter, Harvey Keitel, Anna Paquin, and Sam Neill create a fantastic ensemble in a beautiful Irish tale of subtle, strange romance. The film requires some thought and patience, though it is very entertaining, touching, and even a bit haunting. Look out for a great ending that will most certainly make you think."

PINATA: SURVIVAL ISLAND (2002)
Rating: *
"Y'know, this mess of a horror flick is actually sort of decent until its laughable rubber monster starts 'frightening' the audience. Only the almost always-satisfying Nicholas Brendon's career will survive this island shipwreck."

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL (2003)
Rating: ***1/2
"I'm more than amazed by this film. Johnny Depp turns in a marvelous performance (when hasn't he?), the special effects are wonderful, and it's a Disney movie where the only moral is to kick the crap out of undead zombies. Ranks right up there as one of the best Disney productions."

PITCH BLACK (2000)
Rating: ***
"It's essentially Alien in another setting, and it works just fine. Seen as a film of its own, it's a fun, exciting, and beautifully-shot sci-fi flick."

PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES (1987)
Rating: ***1/2
"A flat-out hilarious comedic classic!"

PLANET OF THE APES (1968)
Rating: ****
"Charlton Heston is perfect as the square-jawed hero in this classic science fiction film that can only be called pure, enjoyable entertainment."

PLANET OF THE APES (2001)
Rating: **
"A craptacular remake."

POCAHONTAS (1995)
Rating: *1/2
"It's just a shame that Pocahontas didn't kill herself when she dived off of the cliff."

POKEMON THE FIRST MOVIE: MEWTWO STRIKES BACK (1999)
Rating: **
"I'm ashamed to say it, but this Pokemon film is actually somewhat entertaining, and has a great moral for younger viewers."

POKEMON: THE MOVIE 2000 (2000)
Rating: **
"Pretty corny and very predictable, it's worse than the first...especially for tired parents."

POLTERGEIST (1982)
Rating: ****
"Probably the best horror movie involving ghosts."

POPEYE (1980)
Rating: ***
"Robin Williams knows how to eat his vegetables."

POWERPUFF GIRLS, THE (2002)
Rating: ***
"Sharp animation and an intelligent plot make this a cute, yet epic, superhero adventure...and for some reason, it just reminds me of Batman..."

PRANCER (1989)
Rating: ***
"A charming Christmas classic."

PRANCER RETURNS (2001)
Rating: *1/2
"Such a disappointment when compared to the first."

PREDATOR (1987)
Rating: **
"The Terminator and Apollo Creed star in this cheesy and moronic mishmash of Aliens and Platoon with somewhat nice direction by The Man Who Would Go On to Die Hard. This is supposed to be great sci-fi? Yikes."

PRELUDE TO A KISS (1992)
Rating: **1/2
"It's okay, and definitely interesting. Admittedly, though, Meg Ryan and Alec Baldwin have pretty good chemistry together."

PRETTY WOMAN (1990)
Rating: ***
"One of the funniest, most entertaining romantic comedies ever created."

PRINCE OF EGYPT, THE (1999)
Rating: ***1/2
"One of the most epic and ambitious animated sagas of all time, this is a beautifully-rendered account of Moses' quest to free his people."

PRODUCERS, THE (1968)
Rating: ***1/2
"One of the funniest films I have ever seen!"

PSYCHO (1960)
Rating: ****
"Alfred Hitchcock's shining masterpiece."

PSYCHO BEACH PARTY (2000)
Rating: **1/2
"Like many of the movies I enjoy, this is not a film for everyone. Psycho Beach Party is a campy, '50s-esque horror/comedy where the camp is supposed to be campy, but becomes even more campy when it feels too forced, adding to the flick's cheese factor as well as the enjoyment. You won't be able to guess the killer until the very end, and leads Lauren Ambrose and Nicholas Brendon are delightful! Often funny, strange, and weirdly entertaining."

PULP FICTION (1994)
Rating: ****
"By far the best, most breathtakingly creative film I've ever seen. Exciting, colorful, gritty, and masterful. A true modern classic, if ever there was one."

PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE (2002)
Rating: ****
"A delirious little love story with a surprisingly knock-out performance by Adam Sandler."

PUNISHER, THE (1989)
Rating: *
"This movie must be punished."
