"R"

These are the movies that begin with the letter "R".

RABBIT-PROOF FENCE (2002)
Rating: **1/2
"Powerful and with fine performances, though a tad dull. I would've rather read the novel."

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981)
Rating: ****
"George Lucas' best creation, and one of Spielberg's all-around best movies."

REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES (2002)
Rating: ***1/2
"Who said that teen dramas had to be self-absorbed and speak down to its audience? Real Women Have Curves is a beautiful film about a beautiful girl coming to terms with her self-image. Highly recommended for all ages!"

RED DRAGON (2002)
Rating: ***1/2
"Chilling and startling. Red Dragon is one heck of a prequel to the original Silence of the Lambs!"

REF, THE (1994)
Rating: ***
"I think that Denis Leary is one of the most biting and funny comedians out there, and this enjoyable comedy serves him well."

REINDEER GAMES (2000)
Rating: **1/2
"It's unusual that a Christmas movie should have so much violence, language, and blood. Oh, well, have a Merry Christmas, children."

RESERVOIR DOGS (1992)
Rating: ****
"This dog is an amazingly well-trained animal that only gets better with time. An intense, taut screenplay/directorial debut from the ever-talented Quentin Tarantino fortified by strong screen presences and performances makes for a spectacular movie in Reservoir Dogs, which does take a little time to warm up to, but once you do...oh, boy... Beware of dog, for sure."

RICHIE RICH (1994)
Rating: **
"I must admit, this is a slightly entertaining diversion."

RIKKI-TIKKI-TAVI (1975)
Rating: **
"Though this is more or less a faithful adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's story, it desecrates the slightly darker tone of the story with glee by adding inappropriate loads of Chuck Jones' Loony Tunes-esque humor."

RING, THE (2002)
Rating: ***1/2
"Creepy, clever, original, and shocking...a truly original horror movie in a time when those are scarce."

RIO BRAVO (1959)
Rating: ***
"Howard Hawks' rip-roaring western featuring the all-star talents of John Wayne, Dean Martin, and Ricky Nelson is exciting, funny, and very stylish in its first two hours...it's just a shame that the pay-off can't measure up to what preceded it."

RISKY BUSINESS (1983)
Rating: ***
"This movie sure was risky...and it worked."

ROAD TO PERDITION (2002)
Rating: ****
"A chilling and well-acted gangster movie."

ROCK, THE (1996)
Rating: ***
"It's biff, bop, and ka-blam all the way, but I'll be darned if it's not one of the most entertaining flicks out there."

ROCK STAR (2001)
Rating: **
"It's decent, but gritty and boring."

ROCKY (1976)
Rating: ****
"An amazingly triumphant boxing movie that is anything but just sports."

ROCKY II (1979)
Rating: ***1/2
"I know that I'm in the minority here, but I think that this one is almost on par with the original. Another powerful boxing tale from Sylvester Stallone."

ROCKY III (1982)
Rating: ***
"The Italian Stallion gallops back into action. With Hulk Hogan and Mr. T, too!"

ROMY AND MICHELLE'S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION (1997)
Rating: *
"The two title characters are such self-absorbed, arrogant jerks that you won't like them at all."

ROOKIE, THE (2002)
Rating: ***1/2
"I've always thought that people take sports too serious. They're games, I mean, c'mon. But to see a film that so warmly embraces baseball, and shows us the heart behind it, is absolutely wonderful. I always thought baseball was better than all the other sports."

RUDOLPH, THE RED-NOSED REINDEER (1964)
Rating: ***
"A timeless Christmas tradition with fantastic animation and superb story! But, really, why is Rudolph's nose red?"

RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER AND THE ISLAND OF MISFIT TOYS (1998)
Rating: **1/2
"It doesn't touch the original, sure, but it still is a good flick, especially considering that Rick Moranis voices the bad guy!"

RUGRATS MOVIE, THE (1998)
Rating: **1/2
"Quite cute and clever."

RUNAWAY BRIDE (1999)
Rating: **
"It's funny at the time, but in the end, it's nothing that Pretty Woman isn't."

RUNAWAY JURY (2003)
Rating: **1/2
"A cast of all fine actors and actresses elevate the quality of this so-so courtroom thriller that has a flat screenplay which wouldn't have run nearly as far without them."

RUSH HOUR (1998)
Rating: ***
"Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker strike kung-fu comedy gold together."

RUSH HOUR 2 (2001)
Rating: **1/2
"Still funny, but repetitive and convoluted."
