Joon is a little strange: she paints, she throws objects, she directs the traffic wearing a snorkeling mask; but she is also very clever with words. Her older brother Benny, who runs a car repair shop and looks after his mentally impaired sister, is at the point of despair: another housekeeper has just left for good, driven away by one of Joon's sudden and violent outbursts. That night, Joon wins at a game of poker with Benny's friends - and she wins Sam, an alphabet and Buster Keaton fan. After his Benny's initial protest („You can't bet a human being!") he agrees to take Sam home, realizing that the housekeeper problem may be put aside, at least for a few days. In the time to follow, Sam and Joon cautiously discover each other and, unavoidably, fall in love. When Benny finds out about this, he kicks Sam out of the house. Through a sequence of alternately very comical (you are shown how to make cheese sandwiches with the use of an iron) and very serious scenes (Joon's mental illness is not belittled and romanticized), the viewer is finally lead to a charming and well-deserved happy end for all people involved, for Benny, too, through finding love himself, is able to let go of his over-protectiveness of Joon. Rachel Portman's music certainly deserves to be mentioned as an important ingredient of this beautiful romantic comedy. [Synopsis by Mitch]
