A young man in a Zorro costume and mask is threatening to throw himself from a high rooftop because of a lost love. Called by the police, psychiatrist, Doctor Mickler, succeeds in calming him down by pretending to believe him that he is the famous Don Juan de Marco, best lover in the world. Having taken him to the clinic for diagnosis and treatment, Mickler allows himself to be drawn into the world Don Juan opens up to him in their sessions, his world of beautiful women and amorous adventures, full of admiration for love and the affect it has on the world. While Don Juan tells him the story of his young life, of his first love, the beautiful Dona Julia, his time in a sultan's harem and finally the unhappy ending of his last and dearest love, Dona Ana, Mickler gets increasingly enchanted by the young man's magic view of life and love and it even gives new fire to his marriage and the last days before his retirement from his job. Let it suffice to say that the movie's ending is as enchanting as the romantic, seemingly dilusional world of Don Juan de Marco, whose merging of reality and illusion leaves the viewer in happy wonder.
