Tokyo Marui MP5 RAS

This is my favorite AEG so far. It is a Marui MP5 that is perfected (almost, more about that later). I came to the decision of buying the MP5 RAS because it looked awesome, it had a red dot scope, Rail Accesory System, a folding stock, and a few perfections of the Marui MP5 series. I ordered it from airsoft shop with a basic upgrade, two normal mags, a battery, and a charger. First airsoft shop had great service and sent it out as soon as they got the payment from paypal. It came to my house in four long, hard days, after which I tore off the box that was covered in tape (literally a shell of tape). The gun was exactly what I expected, the gun and manuals everything there. One bad thing though is that the picture on Airsoftshop has two mags in it, the gun only comes with one normal mag. The other is a cardboard insert.

I got over the fact that there weren't two mags and pulled the gun out of the box. The gun had a nice weight to it, not too heavy, but not too light. The gun did feel very solid, with the exception of the folding stock. The reason why the stock feels so bad is because it is hollow. Because of this design the stock will start to come apart (very small crack inbetween the two halves of the stock). To solve this I used a mallet and hammered it back together. It is not as bad as it sounds. On a higher note, the stock is very sturdy when the halves are together. Another solution might be to pour some thing that would fill the stock and make it stick together.
The RAS did help to the feeling because it is all metal. I can prove this because I had to pry a stripped scope ring off of the rail. That was when I scratched it, but nothing else happened to it. Under the black paint there is metal. The drawback to the RAS is that there it not a big battery capacity. The battery changes aren't easy enough to do in the heat of battle; the mini 8.4v 600mah is a rather snug fit inside the foregrip. It wont be able to fit a 9.6 volt. This also means that you cant upgrade it internally very much. I plan to put a battery on the side of the stock, instead of in the foregrip.
Marui also upgraded the cocking lever, but this doesn't mean that it is unbreakable. I figured that out the hard way. Marui also added a muzzle with a 14mm negative (-, counter-clockwise) thread to take the Marui Knights Pro Silencer. To spice it up Marui put a quick attach flash hider on the end of the new muzzle.
The Marui Pro sight II is a reflex reddot scope. This came mounted with a low mount. The sight is nice, not great, but nice. In the day I use the normal sights and at night I use the reddot scope. There are a few dissapointing things about the scope. One, it is made out of plastic, so it is not durable. Two, it is a little too easy to sight in, or in other words the knobs to sight it in are way too easy to turn and will "unsight" themselves in the heat of battle from time to time. Three, the objective has a red coating on it making everything that you can see through the scope have a light blue tint, very annoying at night. Four, the low mount is too low. You have to look through the upper half of the front sight. This isn't a big problem but it does get in your way ,slightly. However, in a game, you will not notice it. The good things about this scope are that it comes with the gun, it has three power settings, and works very nice. The good outweighs the bad.
Marui didn't change anything in the gearbox so here's how it performed. It is very accurate. From twenty yards it had 2 inch groupings on full and one inch groupings on semi. The rof is very good with the gun's eg700 motor, around 800-900 rounds per minute. The internals hold up to marui's good reputation, hasn't failed me yet. Even with the small battery it lasted a good 4-5 hours of constant fire.
ACCURACY- 9/10

RANGE-8/10

SIGHTS-9/10

UPGRADABILITY- 10/10

MANEUVERABILITY-10/10

OVERALL.............9/10

For starters this gun got a ten because this gun is very upgradeable, contrary to popular belief. Most people think the MP5-RAS is not a very upgradeable gun because of the little battery capacity. Drill a hole in the stock and get a battery bag to put on the side of it, problem solved. This gun is great, sure it has its problems, but the problems are rather insignificant when you think of barrel wobble, creaky body, and faulty internals. The gun may cost more than your ordinary MP5, but this isn't an ordinary MP5.

So it is just a funny pic even though it doesn't have a MP5 RAS! Simon doesn't look happy. Maybe because his little P-90 doesn't match up to the mighty MP5-RAS :)
