Kate Winslet Rose DeWitt Bukater was born in Reading, England, on October 5, 1975. She began acting at the age of 13. She first appeared on the London Stage in the musicals “Adrian Mule,” “Peter Pan” (Wendy), “A Game of Soldiers” (Sarah), and “What the Butler Saw” (Geraldine), for which she earned a Manchester Evening News Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Kate was featured in the British TV shows “Shrinks,” “Anglo-Saxon Attitudes,” “Dark Season,” and “Casualty.” She is most well-known as Eleanor Sweet in “Get Back.”
Her first film was “Heavenly Creatures.” She also appeared in “A Kid in King Arthur’s Court” and Princess Sarah. She next appeared as Marianne in Sense and Sensibility to which she won a SAG and BAFTA award for Best Supporting Actress and an Oscar nomination (1996).
Kate next starred as Sue Bridehead in “Jude” and Opheila in “Hamlet.” Kate can currently be seen as the wealthy first-class Rose DeWitt Bukater who feels trapped in her life and falls for free spirited Jack Dawson. Kate earned a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for Best Dramatical Actress for this role.
