BOMB AT TEN:TEN (1967)

DIRECTOR:

Caslav Damjanovic

CAST:

George Montgomery, Rada Popovic, Branko Plesa, Peter Banicevic, Ljuba Tadic.

REVIEW:

Bomb at 10:10 is one of the most boring war adventures I've ever seen. It has a second rate cast, almost no action and not much going for it.

An American pilot escapes from a POW camp and links up with Yugoslav partisans. He's about to head back to Allied lines when he learns that the Partisans are plotting to assassinate the camp kommandant. He joins in the plot, aiming for revenge.

The movie doesn't have a very strong cast. George Montgomery plays the American hero. The man can't act very well; he sounds as though he's reading from cue cards. Branko Plesa makes an expected turn as an evil Nazi officer. Watch for Pavle Vujisic (the bus driver from The Battle of Neretva) as the man with the glasses in the last third of the movie. Ljuba Tadic (Jelena from Battle of the Eagles) is also credited but I'd have to re-watch the movie to find out just who she played. And, I'm sorry, but I'd probably fall asleep while looking for her.

The plot is tedius and dull. Once the conflict is introduced there's really nothing more to be done. The musical score is woman singing some form of opera -- it's loud and doesn't fit the mood. The cinematography is decent and Sarajevo looks like a big, bustling city. Director Damjanovic has only done one more film, a Partisan drama entitled Rekvijem starring Ty Hardin. I have not yet seen it but I hear from a reliable source that it's just as bad.

I saw this on VHS video from Video Treasures. The print had a decent color transfer, with instense bright video. Unfortunately hardly a frame goes by without a flurry of scratches or snow. The sound mix was monaural. The video was recorded in LP mode, which didn't help much.

My advice: skip this boring movie. If you have to watch a bad Yugoslav "Partisan" movie, go with Bridge to Hell ... it's a piece of trash but at least it'll keep you awake.
