Jules
-Samual L.Jackson
In a story of redemption, Jules' redemption is the biggest of all. A hitman
working for Marsellus Wallace, Jules, unlike Vincent, sees his job as more of
a way of life, something he can't go home at night and leave the day at the
office. When we first meet him, he's one his way to Brett's ;who has stolen
a briefcase from Marsellus' with Vincent, his partner. After getting the briefcase
and killing Brett, a man who was hiding in the bathroom bursts out, firing six
times at point blank range at Jules and Vincent. He misses with every shot,
and Jules' life suddenly changes. Seeing it as divine intervention (meaning
that God came down and stopped the bullets), Jules decides that it's a sign
from God telling him to quit and go straight. It's his opportunity for redemption,
and he takes it. He quits the lifestye, and it can be assumed he, as he says,
"wanders the earth" for the rest of his life.
Vincent
Vega- John Travolta
Brother of Vic Vega (Reservoir Dogs), Vincent is a hitman working for Marsellus
Wallace. We can see by his conversations with Jules, his partner, that Vincent
sees his job as just that. A job. As the main character of the film, we follow
Vincent throughout every story of the movie. When we first see him, he's on
his way to a "job" with Jules. After killing who he's had to, a man
bursts out of the room, firing six shots at him and Jules. He misses with every
shot, and while Jules sees it as an act of God that they survived, Vincent blows
it off as just a freak occurance, and pays for it later. Later that night, Vincent
has to take Marsellus' wife, Mia, out to "show her a good time" at
the request of Marsellus. After nearly killing her (accidentally), his next
job is to watch Butch's apartment with Marsellus. While in the bathroom, Butch
comes into the apartment to find Marcellus' (who's out getting coffee and doughnuts)
machine gun. When Vincent opens the door, Butch blows him away. Had Vincent
taken the same path as Jules, and aknowledged the sign to quit, he'd have avoided
death.
Butch
Coolidge- Bruce Willis
Butch is a classic boxer who refuses to throw the fight. He's a boxer who never
truly made it, and when payed by Marsellus to go down in the 5th round, he accepts.
When the time comes his pride won't allow him to throw the fight, and he instead
beats his opponent so bad he kills him. Marsellus is understandably ticked off,
and sends out his goons to go looking for Butch when he flees the ring. Butch
makes it all the way back to the hotel he's meeting his girlfriend, Fabienne,
at. When Butch finds out she forgot his very important watch, which has been
passed down to him from his great grandfather/grandfather/father, at their apartment,
he heads back, knowing well just how dangerous that could be. When he gets there
and gets the watch, he finds a machine gun on the counter and Vincent Vega on
the toilet. After killing Vincent and making his redemption with Marsellus,
Butch takes off with Fabienne, his 'chopper', and his gold watch.
Mia
Wallace -Uma Thurman
Daughter of Marsellus Wallace, Mia is used ot getting what she wants. Unfortunately
she has developed a quite nasty Drug habit. This is something that almost results
in the poor girls death when she is out on a date with Vincent. it is only the
timely insertion a needle with the appropriate medicine being thrust into her
heart that save s Mia from an unfortunate daeth at the hands of a drug overdose.
As such this is not only lucky for Mia but also Vincent whom Marsellus had entrusted
to his care and would no doubt have taken his anger out on if Mia had died.
