Based
on Truman Capote's novel, this is the story of a young, jet- setting woman in
New York City who meets a young man when he moves into her apartment building.
He is being kept by a wealthy, older woman, but wants to be a writer. She is
working as a high-priced escort and searching for a rich, older man to marry.
The opening scene has her window-shopping at Tiffany's at six in the morning,
after being up all night on a date.
Holly
Golightly- Audrey Hepburn
Holly lives in an apartment with her cat called 'cat'. She is an escort women
who goes on dates and then sneaks out on them after going to the ladies room.
She is doing all this to get her brother Ben out of the army. Her life starts
to change when a new tennent called Paul Varjak moves into the apartment above
hers. She first meets Paul one night when bored she climbs the fire escape outside
her window up to his apartment. holly enjoys throwing parties and it is during
one of these that she meets a millionaire whom she agrees to marry. However
Mr Yunioshi is angered by Holly and informs the police that she has in her possession
drugs. This turn of events results in the marriage being canceled. After being
freed from prision by her neighbour Paul and then hearing this news Holly decides
to leave town. At the station Paul begs Holly to stay but at first she decides
that leaving is still the best course of action. However as she drives away
she has a change of heart and jumps out of the taxi and runs into the arms of
Paul.
Paul
Varjack- George Peppard
Paul is a simple writer who moves into the apartment above the beautiful Holly
Golightly. His first meeting with Holly is a bit on the unusual side as she
climbs the fire escape out side of their apartment and enters his room from
this way. It is not long however before Paul begins to fall for Holly. Unfortunately
Holly soon becomes engaged to a rich millionaire. This engagement does not last
as another tennenment of the building Mr Yunioshi has Holly arrested for supposed
drugs possession. With her fiance abandoning her it is up to Paul to get Holly
out of Jail. Shortly after her release the two go to tiffany's where from the
insides of a toffees bag Paul produces a ring to Holly and gets it engraved
for her. Unfortunately the rejection of her fiance forces Holly to run away.
Paul accompanies her to the station where he asks her to stay but at first she
refuses claiming that she will not belong to anyone. As such Paul decides to
leave with her cat 'cat'. While the taxi pulls away Paul and the cat turn to
walk away but then the taxi with Holly in it stops and she gets out and runs
and embraces Paul deciding to stay with him rather than leave forever.
