What is Gamera?
Gamera is the guardian of the Earth, created by the people of Atlantis over 10,000 years ago. The Atlantans first created an artificial species called Gyaos. These man-eating reptiles didn't need a mate to reproduce, since they could be both sexes at once. They start off small, about the size of a chicken when born, but can grow to over 70 meters (231 feet).The people of Atlantis were destroyed by Gyaos, so they created Gamera to save them. However, they finished him too late, and by the time Gamera was done, the Gyaos destroyed the civilization of atlantis. So the Atlantans left Gamera to protect the next civilization that had to deal with the Gyaos, if they ever returned. Gamera gained a physic link with a young girl, Asagi Kusanagi, through a comma shaped metal jewel. Although many comma shaped metal jewel's were found, only Asagi was able to gain a physic link with Gamera. The comma shaped metal jewels were found on Gamera's shell, before he awakened in Gamera 1. Mistaken for a "floating atoll", the marine safety agency send for a group of scientists to investigate the floating atoll (Which was Gamera, tucked inside his shell, with a lot of coral on top of his shell). On the "atoll", they found many comma shaped metal jewels and a metal plaque which, when translated, said "The last hope, Gamera. We bestow it to the cradle of time. May it awaken with Gyaos, the shadow of evil."

Gamera's fighting style
One of the things that makes Gamera so unique is he can fight anywhere. He is a fast swimmer, is a very good fighter on land, can fly fast, and can attack while flying. When fighting a new foe, Gamera tries to study his foe, learning it's combat style, usually loosing the first fight. However, Gamera then returns after learning his foe's combat style and uses that to his advantage.
Gamera's abilities
Flight
This is Gamera's main form of transportation. He flattens out his arms and tucks in his legs to fly very similar to the way an airplane would fly. In this mode, Gamera is able to attack his enemies by firing plasma balls at them.
Flight speed: Mach 3.5
Spinning shell
This is another form of transportation for Gamera. In this form, Gamera tucks in his arms, legs, head, and tail inside his shell and spin like a flying saucer. In Gamera 3, During a mid-air battle with Iris, Gamera spun his shell rapidly and used it to tackle Iris.
Plasma balls
This is Gamera's main attack. His plasma fire balls are highly destructive. Throughout the trilogy, Gamera's accuracy increased and was able to fire his plasma balls more rapidly.
Can absorb fire and use it as energy
As seen in Gamera 1, Gamera was able to absorb the surrounding fires and used it to fire a super heated plasma ball at Gyaos, ultimately destroying it.
Mana blast
While fighting the Mother Legion and near death, Gamera gathered some of the Earth's mana (or life force) inside his body and released it in a stream of energy. This attack is said to be as strong as an atomic bomb.
Burning fist
After having his right hand impaled on a wall in Kyoto station by Iris' spear like arms, Gamera fired a plasma ball at his right hand, severing it off from his arm. He absorbed Iris' plasma ball attack with the stump of his right hand and used it to form a "burning fist" which he used as his ultimate attack against Iris.

Obitsu: "Once again, Gamera came to save the human race"
Honani: "I don't think it was mankind that Gamera came to save. It was for all life on this planet. Gamera couldn't let Legion win. Gamera is the Earth's guardian."
Obitsu: "So then... if mankind continues to destroy all life on Earth..."
Honani: "We wouldn't want Gamera as our enemy"
