"Be My Valentine, Franny Canada," is Steven Tsapelas's senior film. It's about two former 80's child actors, Franny Canada (Ginger Kearns) and Lowell Buffalo (Shelby Bond), who try and understand the meaning of Valentine's Day.
The characters of Franny and Lowell first appeared in short stories written by Tsapelas for his creative writing class. In the Spring of 2002, Steven tied with another student for first place in a creative writing contest at Hofstra University for one of his Franny and Lowell stories. He kept writing Franny and Lowell stories and decided that his senior film would be about them.
Steven completed the film for his class in May of 2003 and was selected to the 2003 Student Showcase of Hofstra University. It was nominated for six awards (Best Screenplay, Most Originality, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Director, and Best Picture); and it won two (Best Director and Best Picture) with Honorable Mention for Best Cinematography (Bryan Capri).
