Hugh's Bio

Hugh Jackman was born on October 12th, 1968 in Sydney, Australia. He is the youngest of five children. He attended the University of Technology in Sydney and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications with a major in journalism. After college, he took a different path, heading towards drama, instead of journalism. He attended the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts. This was a one-year course known as "The Journey". While at the school, he took roles in Romeo and Juliet, Tonight We Improvise, Barbarians, and Translations.

After completing school in 1991, he was offered a role in Corelli, an ABC (Australian Broadcasting Company) TV drama. It was on this program that Jackman met his future wife, Deborra-Lee Furness. This role had catapulted his career and Jackman received several TV guest roles. Jackman is an incredible singer as well, and has done extensive work on stage productions. He starred as Gaston in the premiere Australian production of Beauty and the Beast. He's also had a role in Sunset Boulevard as Joe Gillis. But his biggest stage project to date was his role as Curly in the Royal National Theatre's production of Oklahoma!. His part as Curly brought Jackman international attention. This attention helped Jackman land a role in Erskineville Kings, the film that earned him an Australian Film Institute nomination for Best Actor.

But, the movie that looks to have truly sent Hugh to super-stardom, is his role as Wolverine in the summer blockbuster, X-Men as Wolverine/Logan. Dougary Scott was originally casted for the part, but his role in Mission: Impossible 2 made it impossible to play Wolverine/Logan, and the part was given to Hugh.

After X-Men, Jackman’s acting career skyrocketed, first with Someone Like You, in which he played Eddie Alden, the apartment mate of Jane Goodale (Ashley Judd).

His next role was with John Travolta and Halle Berry in Swordfish where he portrays Stanley Jobson, a computer cracker, hired by Gabriel Shear (Travolta) to help steal six billion dollars from the government.

Jackman’s latest role was in the holiday hit, Kate and Leopold. In Kate and Leopold, Jackman plays Leopold, a duke who accidentally falls through a portal in time and falls in love with Kate McKay (Meg Ryan).

Aside from acting, Hugh continues his musical talents by playing the piano, violin, and guitar. He's also an avid windsurfer, and also enjoys a round or two of golf. Of course, he also enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, Deborra-Lee and his son, Oscar.
