PACIFIC ELECTRIC SHERMAN YARD
Begun by Henry Huntington, the Pacific Electric interurban trolley lines was the world's largest (in miles). Owned most of its life by the Southern Pacific railroad which could run their trains on the same tracks as the trolleys (standard gauge), found out that the trolley lines were money losers and began to discontinue lines.
In West Hollywood, on the southeast corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and San Vicente Blvd, a repair shop and storage yard for the trolleys was located. The last trolley using that facility stopped running in 1954-55.
