The Sierra Railway roundhouse is located in the city of Jamestown in Tuolumne County. The railway and its trains has played host to filmmaking as far back as 1919 when Universal Pictures filmed a train holdup for the serial "The Red Glove".
The "Sierra Railroad" was built in 1897 as a 57 mile common carrier. In 1981, the State of California purchased the Jamestown railroad repair facilities. The trains are operated by the Sierra Railroad Company.
